Right, I'm 28 and I currently privately rent my home.
(Which is silly amounts of money £600 a month)

I own my own business which turns over around £75k a year. Profit around £40k

My partner earns £13k a year.

But we're still struggling to buy our first house.

Granted we get married in 2 weeks. Which has taken our savings. And I have a £7k (ish) tax bill.

But every time we try and save when end up with a bigger bill.

Surely I can't be the only person in this boat!?

What you guess saying about Renting/buying....

Which is better this day and age?

First off tell your partner to get a proper job or go full time. £13,000 a year is barely even paying tax.

Living in the UK is one big scam.

Yes it is!!!

My partner has qualified in child care.
She studied for years. Sadly the rate of pay is shocking. (Min wage) You earn more money in tesco or mcdonalds. But I suppose it's done for the love of the job.

I refer you to the proper job part of my recommendation.

I love cycling, but there's nothing in cycling that can fund my lifestyle. I don't demand to work in the cycling industry because it's not a sustainable life choice if I aspire to owning anything substantial.

I don't see how you're struggling to save, your household bills shouldn't be more than 1k. That leaves around £2k a month for everything else taking your combined income into account.

You could save close to 1k a month if you wanted to.

In the same boat.

Renting in London for £700pcm, taking home about £45k PA. Going to be saving for an eternity to afford to buy in the same location I'm renting.

IDC what anyone says, I've lived in a lot of places and London is by far the best city in the world so in my eyes it's worth doing.

Would love to be proved wrong or given alternatives. House prices here are ever-growing, especially as parts of south London become more gentrified.

Tempted to blast my savings on some stock and just see wtf happens...

You done fucked up if you have no savings.

Of course more income equals more tax! Its not randomly determined.

Shame you are getting married. You could have bought a flat then rented it to your partner. She could have claimed housing allowance to pay rent to you since she is a low earner
