well, for a start, pick one. they both have very different contributors

patreon is for people to give you their shekels on a regular basis, and pretty much requires you to continually give those people value for their money. it's more for blogs/youtube channels.

kickstarter is when you want people to give you a heap of money as a once-off, before you actually do anything. this is more for inventions/new products etc

In what capacity do you want to develop games? In the 8 bit era games were made by a group of 4 different people each with their own skills, like a band. The programmer who codes the game, the designer who comes up with the ideas, tests the game and assists the programmer, the artist who works with the designer to create the concept art then creates all the game's visuals, and finally the musician who makes the game's music and sound effects.

Though in the past 30+ years the number of people needed to make a game has greatly increased, those four roles are still pretty much the same. If you want to be a programmer or designer get a computer science degree and learn to code. If you want to be an artist learn 3d modeling.
