This is the official Bitcoin Thread.

Those who sold on the recent dip are frantically buying back, realizing they've been cucked by whales and ETH shills who sold their scamcoins for fiat.

Price at time of post is $666 and rising

$670 and rising. Cucks who sold their bitcoins are learning a tough lesson:. Whales love to shake out weak-handed cucks

Now you faggots have to buy back, probably at a loss

If you had a brain in your head and a pair of balls you'd ignore the recent dump, but no, you're a faggot cuck so you sold

Enjoy wTching the price rise you faggot cucks

Do you mean sold at a loss? What would be wrong with selling at ~700 mark we had recently and buying back in at the 580-600 mark earlier today?

Where is 212 btc guy hasn't he been at 212 for a while now?
>>
>>1332874
I am 212 btc guy

What's wrong with selling at $700 and rebuying at whatever shitty price you bought at?

First of all you gave more ammo to the irs kikes, once they see you've bought a brand new car theyre gonna come for their cut

Meanwhile smart people like myself will cash out slowly, long after the next hLving and long after the price is in the quad digits, I'll never pay a dime to irs kikes

Why is it hard to believe people hold coins.. Have over 80 myself.

Nocoiners going to nocoin.

In Australia had a peak of $1,000 a coin and then we had the drop, now brexit and back at $900.
>>
this overreaction by traders to brexit is a proof that bitcoin is a speculative bubble

I wish I had bought when it was at $560 earlier today. I've got a real knack for bad timing. Ended up buying 0.5 BTC when it reached $630 when it was clear it was back on the upswing.

That brings my stash up to 22 BTC. Can't wait until bitcoin becomes the world reserve currency and I have 1/1,000,000 of all the money.

You can't own a house or a car without the IRS knowning, they will find out, specially if you own property.

I hold BTC myself and I see no way around it. In 10 years when it's 100k or more a coin I will want to buy some real state with it and how are you supposed to do it without taxman knowing you buy property?

realistically there will be another major selloff before or soon after the halvening. might be a good idea to sell here and get in closer to the ground floor later.

real estate is the FAKEST investment you could have

the government or someone with military power can just come and take it from you

with liquid assets you can always change those assets into other assets that will be more valuable in the future if you have the info to let you do it

Just fired up my old coinbase account. Anyone use it?

What are the limits for buying and selling? Still gotta upload my photoID
>>
>>1338354
Lol they make you upload a photo of yourself for the smallest purchase amounts?

Happy I got the bitcoins I wanted before the kikes really clamped down
>>
>>1338362
No, you can purchase using a wire transfer without any ID required, but the limit is 5-15BTC and it takes a few days. However, using a photoID allows you to use your CC which is instant purchase. So you don't have to worry about missing out on buying during a dip.
>>
>>1338370

If there's any bitcoins in the wallet make sure to sell them immediately for fiat because hey you gotta buy stuff rigjt
>>
You guys that weren't around for the first bitcoin halving have no idea

In a nutshell, the chinks who control a majority of mining will stop selling their mined coins after the halving, resulting in the price skyrocketing

There seems to be some kind of jewish-banker-inspired meme going around that "everyone" is going to sell after the halving, for whatever reason.

The rise in the price might not happen for six months after the halving, and I guarantee you any cucks who sold will FOMO buy back

Can someone tell me if this would be practical to cold storage?

I have a cheap linux laptop with the Electrum wallet and some BTC on it. Would it be an ok idea to take the harddrive out of the laptop and keep it turned off and stored in a safe? Then when i wanted to sell the BTC i could take the hardrive out and put it in the laptop.

Harddrives can corrupt so you need redundancy if you are using harddtives for storage.
Like 5 harddrives and check every year for failures.
>>
>>1338904
yeah like paper can't corrode burn get lost or anything
why not upload your wallet in the cloud? it will stay there forever. encrypt with a strong password and it's all good. of course then you have to remember your password or write it down and we are back to square one.

My wife's son and I saw Donald Trump at a grocery store in Manhattan yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for specifics on his policies about fiat or the federal reserve.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken back, and all I could say was “Gold Standar...” but he kept cutting me off and going “TrumpCoin! TrumpCoin! TrumpCoin!”

and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle with the secret services as I walked off.

When I came to EBT for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen American Flag Zebra Cakes in his hands without paying (apparently he owned the store or something)

The trans at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.”
At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the cakes and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me.

I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each cake and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Imagine a text document bitcoin.txt that looks like this:

>Alice = 1 bitcoin
>Bob = 3 bitcoins
>Carl = 5 bitcoins
>...

Now imagine a bunch of people all around the world have that text document saved on their computers. These computers communicate with each other about changes to the document such that it is kept up to date with strict adherence to certain rules. When you send someone bitcoins you are just telling the computers "please reduce the number next to my name and add it to this other person's name". In order for the network to accept this change you must present your "password" (or private key) proving that you actually are Alice or Bob or whoever.

Bitcoin doesn't actually use names to keep track of funds. Funds belong to an "address" which is just a long, random number which looks something like this: 1QD6qzAAwoNiS7YcxAv9v3whJxZdtzSwg1

Addresses have two parts: the public part which you share in order to receive funds and a private part which acts as the "password" in order to prove that it's your account. A "wallet" application is a program which handles the generation of addresses for you and is able to communicate with the Bitcoin network to send funds etc. I recommend Electrum for desktop or Mycelium for mobile.

Bitcoin is cool because there is no central authority which can seize funds or freeze certain transactions. It is not subject to regulation or government interference. But "with great power comes great responsibility": the flip side of this is that if you accidentally send coins to a scammer or you lose your "password" there is no 1-800 number you can call to get you funds back. They are lost FOREVER. You must take great care to secure your funds on a wallet you trust and on a computer that is free of malware or viruses. Create proper paper backups of all your wallets when large sums of money are involved.

I don't think it will tank, with the economic uncertainty. Add in presidential uncertainty, I expect a big rise prior to the American election.
>>
>>1342638

You'll see a lot of runs both ways over the next couple months. The "problem" is there are high amounts of uncertainty right now with no real clear direction behind the momentum. Once there is a clear vector established you'll know whether to short or long but in the meantime you'll just want to trade.

"A few thing people here don't seem to understand:

Most buying is done off exchanges and OTC. By a wide margin too.

China is not leading this market.

No fee Chinese exchanges are being used to "control" the market, because bots are linked and people think China is leading the market.

Bitfinex is linked to Chinese exchanges to provide liquidity. Just like when BFX was linked to Stamp. That is why some full orderbooks are not shown. When a large drop occurs on Chinese exchanges the volume stays within the range, while Bitfinex drops with larger volume than normal. This is a combination of bot manipulation and Bitfinex offering liquidity.

The rise to nearly 800 was one entity, the OTC sellers and buyers waited until this entity was done and then plopped up over 25K BTC in ask walls, now it's up to 35K. The 35K BTC is a mix of real coins and borrowed coins for sale. You can see this by looking at the full order book, you notice the amounts for sale at XXX.37 repeatedly at every dollar interval? There are other patterns you will see as well.

The OTC buyers put sell pressure on BFX to keep the price down, so their OTC purchase will save them millions, by only making people who look at exchanges think we aren't mooning yet. Without their "fake" sell pressure we would be at ATH.

OTC firms do not care about this "manipulation" because they get a percentage in BTC and know that they will sell much more BTC OTC when the price is reasonable and not mooning. OTC firms might also be in on the fake sell pressure.

My guess is currently someone wants to buy OTC in the $650 range, or an OTC firm is seeing an influx of customers and is easier to just have stable prices for everyone Brexiting or running from their fiat market"

You work for coinbase? In what capacity?

How's it feel to know a shitload of red-blooded white men like myself have stopping logging into their coinbase accounts once you got in bed with the Jewish government and started demanding invasive personal info?

I'm happy as a clam with my bitcoin position and you cocksuckers at coinbase don't know my identity from a hole in the wall
>>
>>1343010
(Continuing the important post on bitcoin talk):

The Bitfinex "malfunction" was deliberate. Using statements from above you can see that dropping the Chinese exchanges prices are easy, causing all the longs on BFX to be force liquidated. Well guess who bought up all those coins that were liquidated while also putting the price back in their range? BFX has a ton of fees in BTC to sell, and guess how they do it? That's right, mostly OTC. And if a buyer says "no way I'm paying $700+ for those coins when the price has only been at this level for a week", then BFX has only one thing to do, bring the price back down in the OTC range.

Long term holders like myself, 4+ years, know this is going on and don't really care about exchange rates YET, because one day millions of small buyers who will only use exchanges will overpower any manipulation put forth by OTC markets and online exchanges.
>>
Can I buy bitcoin without a credit card or smartphone? I have paypal.

>>
12 short days until the halving, when it becomes impossible for millionaire whales, otc traders, the mining chinks, and dishonest manipulating exchanges to keep the price down
>>
>>1343018
I won't comment on my position as it'll narrow me down too much, but I'll answer other questions.

for what it's worth nobody is a fan of the invasive info gathering that we do. But it's the cost of staying in business: compliance with the govt. and fraud prevention. Everybody has this idea that bitcoin = anonymous. well sure, it's pseudonymous, but that doesn't mean you can use your fiat moneys without KYC. Coinbase isn't perfect, but we're a decent onramp for the mainstream consumer.

Good on you for staying anonymous.

For now but it's possible a redistribution of coins in the future would bump you below the threshold. 21 guarantees you will ALWAYS be in the top 1 million. That's really just one way to highlight the significance of this number: you own so much such that it's literally impossible to assemble 1 million individuals wealthier than you. What you're actually interested in though is securing 1/1millionth of bitcoin's market cap - something that could conceivably worth trillions in a not-so-distant future - or absolutely nothing.

transactions fees. right now mining is sustained almost entirely through the creation of new coins but it's the hopes that by the time the mining reward goes to 0 the network will have grown such that miners can be compensated entirely through transaction fees. if that growth does not occur there will be less miners (and thus less security) or transaction fees will go up.

depends on where you sent it from, if it's from an exchange or online wallet you can inquire about the transaction with them.

you can go over the details of the transaction again and check if you used the correct address to send to.

again, I don't think you have to worry about it, trust in the underlying tech and all, it's bound to confirm sooner or later

What does it indicate when a coin's price exceeds its market cap, or vice-versa?
>>
>>1347972

That it's overvalued according to the market cap.

It actually doesn't mean anything in spikes like that, however, except that someone purchased overpriced coins. If it happens beyond a certain threshold it means the market has lost confidence in the currency.

Buy from Coinbase or Circle or LocalBitcoins.

For wallet, depends on how much bitcoin you have and how actively you spend it. For long term holding, create a paper wallet. For active spending use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet or Mycelium.

Anywhere in between just use Electrum or Bitcoin Core. You could also get a hardware wallet (like Trezor) which is very secure and more convenient than a paper wallet.

The supply will be halved, chinks will stop selling their mined coins, in anticipation of a future higher price.

The demand will remain the same or (likely) increase much more

Basic high school economics my boy

If this post is dubs Bitcoin goes to 10k in a year

So typical of a jew to speak in riddles and utter nonsense

You mad us goyim are our own banks, schlomo goldbergstein?

Where's 212 btc guy when you need him?

Can we summon 212 btc guy?

I bet he would purge all this faggotry and Marxism with the blink of an eye
>>
>>1348758
>"I can't understand a concept as simple as "income not being the same as net total.
Just under three-fourths of all bitcoins that will ever exist are out already.
The fact that they are coming in slower doesn't mean that they just stop existing.
>>
>>1348788
What's your point, Johny no coins?

The supply is going to half in a week. The demand is going to remain the same or increase

Even potato know price go up
>>
>>1348784
faggot still doesn't know how to sign a message with a private key

you're a bagholder shill and you always will be. How does it feel to be unidimensional?
>>
>>1348798
Are you implying I'm 212 btc guy who doesn't actually own 212 btc
>>

>>
>>1348798
Also what's wrong with holding a bag filled with bitcoins?

It's treated me pretty well over the years
>>

You've un-masked me! Jesus Christ !

You've indirectly summoned 212 btc guy!
>>
>>1348803
I don't give a shit what you do, just get off your high horse and stop pretending you know what's going to happen to bitcoin.

this thread is shit because of you
>>
>>1348794
Freshly mined coins only make up a small percentage of the 'supply' on the markets right now. And even if it wasn't, it would already be priced in, nothing is going to happen.
But good for you to feel good about your 3 shitty coins.
>>
>>1348805
Why not actually sign something?
>>
>>1348806
I can tell you with 100% certainty the price is going to be higher than now six months from now

Why are you trying to instill doubt in potential bitcoin buyers? Are you a jew banker who feels threatened by bitcoin? Are you invested in a shitty altcoin with no future? Are you Johnny nocoins?

>>1348807
Wew I'm getting tag-teamed by the Hebrew express, two beaners think they can fight 212 btc guy and win.

You said something about freshly mined coins not mattering, top kek to that!
>>
>>1348813
I'll sign an autograph for you when my btc makes me worth millions in a few years
>>
>>1348816
>top kek to that
Nice argument.
Wanna bet the bitcoin price won't magically go up after the halvening? With an escrow, of course.
>>
>>1348819
I don't doubt that. I too have substantial holdings and believe 100% in Bitcoin. But if you're going to flaunt your wealth then prove it with a cryptographic signature.
>>
>>1348816
>>1348819
you're the faggot claiming to have $150,000 worth of bitcoin, but will only post a picture of bitcoin core. Sign a message with the private key that holds that coin or gtfo

If bitcoin dies I'm financially dead, I'm fine to say it. Savings gone - equity gone. I don't care. You're the faggot shilling for some shit ass reason - probably in over your head.

>>1348836
I have the coins in dozens of addresses in armory

I've posted the screenshot of my holdings too many times

212 btc isn't even that much, why are you so pleb to disbelieve
>>
>>1348836
Also u say if bitcoin dies then you're fucked, how many coins you holding?

Must be a lot less than 212 since you're gettin all mad about 212 btc guy
>>
>>1348838
i don't give a fuck how many addresses they're in. it's trivial to move literally all of those coins to a single address and sign with the associated private key

>>1348844
i already told you don't I'm not rich. I have 21 or so coins (1 in a million has been my target). the difference between you and me is that you think you know what is going on and you're willing to shill for it because you're in over your head.

cut the shit. nobody cares what you think. having 212 btc just makes your case weaker.

sell that shit now, invest in gold/silver and commodities stocks.Triple your money in 2-3 years. At commodities peak, buy stock equities (which will be low). Triple your money again in 2-3 years when equities rally. In about 6-8 years you have 1million.
>>
>>1348867
You have 21? You probably come from Reddit

I went there once, they think they're cute holding 21 like it's some magical meme #, it makes them feel special

Take your jealously your faggotry and go back to redddd

got a question regarding bitcoin, for example i've got some right now at coinbase and let's say I want to hold it for a couple of years. To me it doesn't really sound like a good idea to keep them online all that time, how do I transfer them to an offline wallet so I can just store them there for the time being?
>>
>>1348995
I like your style, half in a stable Avenue that won't make your rich per say and half in a coin that's gonna moon, but could be argued as riskier.

I'd go that route
>>
>>1349606
After you put a few in Trumpcoin (assuming your white, high iq), the rest of your btc, just DL the pc desktop wallet. xfer btc to it, "backup wallet" option, save wallet.dat to USB, out usb in fire proud lock box.
gg
>>
>>1349201
Óbvio, já que 2220 é maior que 2180. A não ser que você não esteja levando em conta as taxas de transação da corretora, o que aparentemente você não está fazendo.
>>
What the fuck is driving this inflation in BTC?

Literally nothing has changed.

This is correct thinking.

Right now you don't actually own any BTC. You just have an IOU from Coinbase. Lots of people had IOU's from MtGOX back in 2013 and lots of people lost lots of money.

Bitcoin works using something called "public key cryptography". Every Bitcoin address has two parts, the public key which everyone sees and a private key which is used to prove mathematically that you own the associated address. At the lowest level both of these things are just very big numbers.

Wallets handle the generation and storage of these keys for you. I personally recommend Electrum. When you first create a new wallet Electrum will show you a series of 12 or 13 words.

WRITE THESE DOWN.

These are used to backup your wallet should you lose or break your computer. In order to restore your BTC simply download Electrum again, select "restore a wallet", enter the 13 words and all your BTC are safe.

For very large holdings you might also consider "cold storage". The process is the same except you purposely delete Electrum and all associated files after backing up the wallet. This means the ONLY copy of the private keys exist in the physical world. This further protects you from hacking or malware.

>high iq
>buying trumpcoin

Ignore these idiots and their PnD scamcoin. Most alts are designed to steal BTC off suckers. Do not get involved in alts. I used to advocate hedging BTC holdings with some ETH but ETH is a mess right now.

Perfect, thank you!

Follow up, which of these services provides the fastest transactions? For me, I'd be getting in small with maybe an initial purchase of 1 BTC at most - probably even less. Would is take days fpr a transaction of that size to go through?
>>
>>1349973
In-person cash trades from localbitcoins is the best if there is a large enough market in your area. Check there first. It's instant and requires no KYC/AML information.
>>
8 days, 17 hrs until the 2nd bitcoin halving!
>>
Basic question. I'm on coinbase and it says transactions from a bank account take 4-5 days to process. Say I want to buy 1 btc for 680 dollars one monday, but the transaction doesn't process until friday. If the price of the coins skyrockets on friday to 900, will i be paying the 680 price or the 900?
