I have around £10K in a UK account. I need to trabsfer it to my Australian account. Should I do it now or wait for the referendum? Which referendum result will be better for the exchange rate?

That's people pricing in the fear of Brexit. Do not mistake that for a signal that it will actually happen, however. Think of it like the VIX, it's measuring rolling volatility of SPY futures so it's not a signal of market behavior, only a signal of what people think the market is going to do.

I read that if brexit happens, gold will be the strongest currency.

I was thinking the Pound would go down initially, possibly along with the Euro. But I've speculated that after a few quarters it would start gaining strength as London withdraws financially following the political withdrawal. With the forfeit of European regulations could add opportunity for domestic investment. That coupled with conservatives gaining momentum could equate to the BOE raising rates to add stability which would further strengthen the Pound.
