Ok so, I understand what bitcoin is, and have just created a wallet and I'll probably buy some soon, however, whenever a disscussion about cryptocurrency comes up on this board, ethereum and waves get mentioned. What are they? Are they similar to bitcoin>

theyre alts.. bitcoin is the safe haven of cryptos
nothing wrong with trying them out.. do research beforehand.. dont get tricked by the shills
you'll do fine

alts are running into more issues
actual cryptos like btc, doge, ltc, trump etc. are at least a little bit easier to grasp

don't forget trumpcoin
bitcoin: safe and stable quarterly gains (it's basically past its growing pains at this point)
alts: high risk high reward investments. if you have a plan and stick to it, while also having an alarm tied to big price rises/drops to help you with your plan, you probably have better odds than a gambling at a casino
avoid anything that shills "smart contract" like the plague though. it's a technology that just isn't ready yet
