I want to get an ETF that tracks the S&P 500. I have an account with etoro (an online stockbroker) and can buy SPY directly through there. What I want to know though, is there much difference between investing in this way and going through a fund such as Vanguard or Blackrock? Is the difference just the fees? I would go direct through Vanguard buy you need around £100,000 but I only have a couple of grand.

Just read the fine prints. SPY is issued by SPDR. There might be minor differences between the issuers for a market weighted s&p ETF, the main thing that ill look for would be liquidity (spy is one of the most exchanged etf). Also, you should check EWI, which is equally weighted (better for value-minded investor).

Thanks mate, this sounds like good advice, I'll just have to look up all those terms to try and work out what it actually means lol, bit of a newbie at this but learning more all the time.
