go to a crappy university VS. go to an OOS community college and hope that you get into a good university as a junior year transfer

>crappy university
People take one look at the name of a university and descide that it sucks because they haven't heard of it before, when in fact it could be really good
>>
>hope you get into a good university

There is no hope about it. You will find a major state university that will accept your credits as long as you go to a legit community college.

Ivy league is a different story. But you're not getting into one of those anyway.

I live in Pennsylvania, and here we have probably the worst in state financial aid out of any state. it costs me $30,000 per year if I want to go to Penn State as a fucking resident of the state, after my aid. how retarded is that? Even the community colleges here are just garbage, worst rankings even out of community colleges. Nothing would transfer anywhere other than the fuck 30K per year Penn State so what would be the point, you know?

My plan was to get the fuck out of my shitty state and go to a community college in a better(read: more socialist state that gives a fuck about higher education being affordable) state and transfer into the local university.

Currently, I'm taking a serious interest in Washington..
--------
Green River College

Pierce College

Edmonds Community College

Shoreline Community College
-------
they're all community colleges, but they would easily get me into University of Washington.....just looked at the cost to go there and realized it would still be like 30K even after their significant aid. fuck my life. I don't know what to do. being from PA sucks.

Can you not establish residency somewhere else? That'll knock a decent amount off tuition. Alternatively you could join the military or ROTC for GI Bill/Scholarships, though it does commit you to a decent length of military service which isn't necessarily what you want.
>>
>>1319853
that takes at least a year no matter where you go. some places 2 years
>>
What is an out of stock community college? And damn op quit being so negative or the world is going to roll you

UW is a great school. Other good states would include Virginia, North Carolina, California, or Texas.

The 30k/year price tag isn't worth it if you are willing to move for a more affordable/reputable education. Only other variable is if you want to pay the premium for the full "college experience", because you won't get that at a CC
>>
Why would you go to an out of state community college?

There is virtually no such thing as a "crappy" college.

The only bad colleges are the for profit schools and the historically black colleges.

Graduating with as little or no debt as possible is the number one most important factor in going to college.

The whole "my college is ranked XX in the nation" is just circle jerking.

The name of your university literally doesn't matter if you're not ivy league, and there is plenty of evidence showing that even ivy league is no matter in terms of education than state level schools and their main benefit is prestige and networking.

Bayfag here, wondering if SFSU is really a bad choice for Finance. It is a known college, but I have no idea its actual reputation.

>tfw Californian
Community college system is so based here.

Went to an undergrad that is not officially "Ivy League" as it's not in the same athletic conference but acceptance criteria was just as difficult, if not more so than some of them.

Professor-wise it was probably no better than any other school. What mattered is all my peers were extremely driven, smart, and now that I'm in my late 20s all have growing careers.

It's been great for networking because my school has alum clubs in all major US cities as it draws from a national geographic base. I've gotten a client for my firm at one alum event. That is the only time my degree has produced a tangible measurable effect. But I'm sure there are other doors it has opened without my even noticing them.

So in my opinion it's worth it. Not everything can be measured in dollars and cents.
