ITT: We discuss the different investment opportunities that are emerging as our previously underdeveloped countries' economy; technological advancement and internet penetration grows.
As an Ethiopian citizen which has previously lived and studied in various countries of Europe but is now back in Ethiopia. I'm now forced to be no_coiner and leave behind my winning online poker days. So I find myself looking for new ways to invest the money that I earn.
I've thought about hosting a market on the dark net since Ethiopia had no legal prosecutions for cyber criminals up until recently, but the net is now highly censored let alone the deep web, can't even access it with TOR+VPN.
Other investment options I've thought of is to start a broker tuition service or a chess academy since neither of these ones are well-known and properly provided for here in Ethiopia.

Are you sure there are enough Ethiopians interested in chess?
Do you think anyone here knows jack shit about investing in Ethiopia?
Personally, I'd invest in a plane ticket out that shit hole.
I love the Philippines and Nigeria. Not even weak form efficient by academic standards. Gobs of money to be made in emerging markets.
Invest every thing in loos
Belizean here. Can't do shit cause our government is leaning socialist very very slowly, mark my words on that. also, 2 megabit internet costs $100 a month

Mate, the Ethiopian economy is fucking booming. If you wanna make an investment, invest in something REAL like say, buy a local bakery and hire a manager and baker to run it.
You will get real returns and your business will grow.

What are you talking about about Belize is a great country for investing. Real estate is an amazing investment there. The credit unions offer great rates of return. Booming tourism industry. Even the treasury department offers 6% on your money.
St Johns credit union is an amazing investment.

all true, also ~0% inflation is comfy af
but OP was talking about technological investments
what investments do you have here, if any?
growing countries need a craft brew scene
>>1310632
Credit union equity, treasury department deposit and real estate. All in my Belizean wifes name. Foreigns can out money in the treasury department or credit union. Also 20% returns on equity.
I love that country.
Whats about you?

Algerian here. Buy Spanish real estate. This shit is probably 3 or 4 times cheaper than in your country.

Not sure if they are, but that doesn't really matter since the targets of my chess academy will be children aged 7-14 mainly composed of foreigners. I'm planning to rent a class room at the Alliance Ethio-Francaise (I was educated in french) since I can't afford nor am I willing to rent a 24/7 room somewhere in Addis, furnish it with all the necessary items and have it be vacant during the weekdays. (I've got a job Mon-Fri)

I'm not asking if anyone here is savvy about investment options in Ethiopia, what I am asking is if others from outside the US/Europe know of any business or ventures that would be profitable in a booming economy. Most of the developing countries have similar types of opportunities.

Wi-fi or unlimited internet is only limited to businesses and gov' offices here in Ethiopia, and it's yet to be privatized, so we only have a single provider owned by the state. The prices are inflated to say the least.
>>1310595
Haha! It's ironic that you've mentioned it because I've been thinking about that too. But, I am lacking the capital to start that kind of business. Both rent and taxation to launch this kind of business is demanding.

Not everyone here is a few kilometres off the spanish coast mate.
