Have to take profit even if it goes up after you sell. Wait for the next profitable trade and don't EVER think one alt will make you rich. It's a slow accumulation.

Pic related my hot wallet. Wouldn't show my cold wallet keys because muh privacy.

Hodling since 2011.

The next pump is going to be a sight to behold. Barely any way to buy Bitcoin in 2013, now there are millions of ways, easy ways any pleb can use. And waaay more awareness. And it's lost the Silk Road stigma and being actually used legitimately.

Lightning networks in last stretches of development which will also bring massive scalability and machine to machine payments.

Don't know if this will be the next spike for certain... But one day it's coming, motherfuckers.

>>1299998
Well, you gotta hodl for longer. Five years here man. Or take risks on the more promising alts. (But that's haard - just as hard as recognising BTC was actually worthwhile back in the day. And getting in early is difficult because people just throw money at them).

I've found a correlation between the major markets and bitcoin in the past few months. When markets take a dump bitcoins increases.

Soros says markets are going to start turning to the downside, and he seems like a guy that knows what he's talking about. If that does happen prepare to have a good time.

nice try at kicking the goal post and turning it into a betting match.. You had no idea how short a time the price hovered above $1000 back in 13.. and had no idea how long it took to buy and sell coins back in those days.. the window is quite narrow.. it was hard for your average guy to dump all his coins in that timeframe.. Even if i won, how could i tell you will send me the 0.2 coin.. this is 4chan
>>
>>1300861
Actually I do know. I bought and sold a little back then. Buying and selling were instant. It wasnt trading coins that took a long time. It was getting fiat in and out. It would be one thing if people sold and then mtgox just goyed them out of their money, which happened. Its another thing to not have even sold at all because you thought that the price spiking like that was at all sustainable or natural and would continue forever. I hate this cult mentality you guys have. We are buying this shit to MAKE MONEY. Any other talks of new paradigm are pure retardation.

i'm thinking of cloud mining eth on genesis after the halvening settles i shall see how profitable it is.
i think lots of folks quitting bitcoin will switch to eth mining and that is a very questionable investment right now. of course you can't mine it with asics right now so maybe it won't do much difference short term.
>>
>>1300865
and did you dump your coins when it hit above 1000?

Many just didnt expect it..or werent actively exchanging when it tanked. Took me ages to get my fiat traded for BTC, i wasnt about to trade it back, even if it lost value.. the hassle was simply too much. Also i didnt have enough to make me insanely rick.. Just in it for the long run. . Now if you mined bitcoin or got it for a dollar back in the day.. Would have been a good time to sell, but these volatility trends are unpredictable

Well assholes, how's it feel to watch the price of bitcoin go nutty while you sit there in your room with your shades drawn and your thumbs up your asses?

Also a friendly reminder to you idiots who missed the Bitcoin boat and think ETH is your ticket to riches, sorry to disappoint you: ETH is a meme scamcoin being used absolutely nowhere and will soon be dumped and fade away into obscurity like every other altcoin.

no they want an escape vehicle for their wealth.
this vehicle is the bitcoin and what makes it that is their own interest.
it's show bubbles form the self reinforcing cycle of expectations and actions.

tldr; the bitcoin is strong because the chinese are buying them in bul and they are buying them because it's strong thus a good store of value in their eyes.

the rest of the world just gapes in disbelief.

I don't feel stupid, no. Disappointed? SURE, with hindsight selling at that point would have been great.

Anybody who sold at "just" the right moment either got lucky (and pats themselves on the back despite having no true insight) or genuinely had some insider knowledge. The crash was not obvious. (Or rather, it could have just as easily been at $500 or $2000 - the precise number was not obvious).

>>1300851
For me, it wasn't heartbreaking. I fully believed in the future of the tech then, and I still do now. It's been annoying, certainly, this several years of nothing much happening. But I have always believed it will go far higher than $1000, so to me it's just a waiting game.

A crash was fully expected, though the length of time it's been down surprised me (but there's been lots of drama e.g. block size etc)

If it spikes again, there will be another crash. Hopefully next time it'll spike over my sell price and I can take some profit as it rises.
>>
>>1301322
>the length of time it's been down surprised me
when there is a significant monetary crisis you will see a surge in bitcoin (if it still exists) guess they can take a decade apart to form even your 3 years are nothing. greece then china next might be the usa. that will be some epic bubble.
>>
Would right now be a good time to buy?

I'm almost convinced the prices will rise and reach a new all time high - but there's the formula that shows it may just decrease in the coming days. Tell me - would you buy Bitcoin right now if you current don't have any?
>>
>>1301341
Depends. Bitcoin will eventually dip in July when the halving occurs, its just a matter of how much it will dip.

It's probably a good idea to buy right now and then sell before the halving to immediately buy back in once it dips

If you want to buy and hold I would just go for it. I bought 2.5 back in January. 2 to hold and 0.5 to fuck around with.
>>
>>1301341
The last year was the time to buy...

I would say buy as long as you are comfortable halving your investment :^) That's a risk I would take desu
>>
>>1301347
Honestly Anon, I can be classified as "poor". I'm actually 19. I only just recently started looking in to stock market and stuff.

To keep things short, I have $1,000 I can invest with. Thing is, $1,000 also just happens to be all my life savings right now (doesn't matter tho - I can just get a job lol).

When you say things like "buy now to immediately 'buy back in'" what do you mean?

Why would I buy now if the price is gonna drop later just to buy more?
>>
>>1301353
it will go up first then crash.
but this crash can take months as previous example shows and the dip can last years.
>>
Let me ask you something.

I know that the amount of bitcoins mined annually is going to literally cut in half in the coming July. What I'm asking you is - why do you believe the price will drop coming the halfing?

I think the price is going to go way up (then obviously dip as the market changes into bear mode)
>>
>>1301373
Actually - I realize I'm being a complete moron. I apologize fellow /biz/ Anons for being a poor businessman.

I'm actually answering my own questions aren't I?

Basically - everything I'm believing right now (which is that the Bitcoin price is going to go WAAAAY up in July then dip around August) is correct.
>>
>>1301341
You're a fool. There's no fucking way to tell what will happen now. Should have bought when it was stable.
>>
>>1301378
I know that Anon - but you see I've only just gotten into the idea of "stocks" and "trade" this year.

I had no idea you can make so much betting on the "stock market". Now I know the truths to life. I realized only earlier this year - the the real way to make money isn't working a 9 to 5. It's by invest correctly in the markets.

So here I am - staring at this relatively new stock called "bitcoins" in awe.

I remember being 15 - an ignorant teen - even then I had heard briefly about Bitcoin. I think some computer game used Bitcoin as its in-game currency. Imagine how much money I would have made RIGHT NOW if I had invested in Bitcoin when it was worth $80 - $100
>>
>>1300842

Let me ask you guys something, Anons of /biz/.

Have I gone crazy recently?

Is it true what they say in the underground. The U.S dollar will crash. All paper money, and all money's currently held by the big banks will lose all value?

That I should change all my currency into coins (quarters, dimes, pennies, silver) and bars of gold/silver

>>
Wow... 5%, incredible. I really am on suicide watch here. Ughhh why didn't I invest in buttcoin... all I have are these worthless SPY calls
>>
>>1301353
You can never be sure about anything. I can't offer you 100% certainty.

Generally, most of us think that we're in the 2nd bitcoin bubble which means we thinks its going to keep going up alot until sometime in July when they cut the amount of bitcoins you can mine in each block by half. Then people will sell their bitcoins dropping the price. If you sell before that price drop happens and buy after it happens, you profit. Then you hold and let it go back up again and then sell once you think its going to drop again.

the problem is your sights are on short term profit. I have been holding since I bought in at $10 with 21btc. You could argue with hindsight that it was stupid not to sell during the last bubble at $1k, but as you are learning, it's not easy to call the peak.

Bitcoin isn't going to stop at a few hundred dollars and remain there for eternity. It either replaces a significant amount of global financial activity or it fails full stop. If the former is true, we are talking millions of dollars per coin long term.

You know you're doing pretty well when my post showing my btc with a cute little "get fucked" message only gets one reply from a delusional eth fag

For two years I read post after post from faggot nocoiners and delusional altcoiners mocking us bitcoin holders

How's it feel to get the shit smeared back in your zero-bitcoin unwashed faces?

The bitcoin price will bubble, probably go well over $1000 in the coming months, and then "crash" like it always has

Nocoiners will come here and try to rub it in our faces, but there's one problem:. It's going to "crash" to a level much higher than before.

People will resume buying and the price will slowly recover

I would seriously be calling the suicide hotline if I had zero bitcoins at this point
>>
>>1301731
I have to add, the last bubble to the ATH of $1,200 could of arguably been an unnatural rise due to that fat fuck karpeles and his so-called Willy bot

This rise is undoubtedly an organic rise due to extreme demand. Reddit cucks will say it's the chinks, because all white men are poor evil fags to them, but truth is this rise is from white men from the west as much as our little yellow friends.

This time around the crash won't be nearly as severe as the last one. I won't be selling for a long, long while

Let the pleb Reddit cucks sell when it reaches $1500 and then regret it 6 months later

>>
>>1301818
>Even if crypto offered some transactional function what cryto do I buy? How do I know there won't be a better one tomorrow?
Network effect. The value of the currency comes from its acceptance. It's a feedback loop.

Also, as a store of value (which I would argue is the PRIMARY current use of Bitcoin - a new alternative to dollar, gold etc), the maturity and stability has great importance. Bitcoin is by far the most battle tested and well developed. All these fancy features of currencies like ETH are a negative when considering it as a store of value - more experimental features mean more possibility of bugs.

Even the block size stagnation/drama is hugely positive for Bitcoin as a store of value - it has proven impossible to get this slightly controversial change into Bitcoin.

tl;dr:
>network effect
>maturity, security
>>

I've been holding since before the 2013 bubble and now want to increase my hold but I'm going to wait till this bubble bursts.
>>
>>1302430
Nobody knows what it can do. If you look at the price history, it has previously found new highs and never returned low again.

But the real point is - it was low for the last two years, why didn't you buy then if you thought it was so good an investment? Now you are just buying on emotion.

>>1302440
Unnatural but not unusual for Bitcoin...

Crash could happen for a million reasons. Another Mt Gox. China clamping down hard. Crash is almost guaranteed, but exactly how high it will go first, and then how low it will crash too, are total unknowns. Spike to $1200 and crash to $600? Or to $10K and crash to $5K?

What would be really interesting is insight and first hand accounts from the Chinese side. Are the buying in China then selling for something else outside of China? Are they buying to hold, to protect their wealth? Are they just jumping on the train with no particular purpose?
>>
>>1302454
personally i dont think it will crash below 700 this time.. it will continue to rise to its new-found value, like last time.
I might be tempted to cash out half of my holdings if it ever makes it past 5k.. and buy during the dip if it ever happens. But i prefer holding long term.
>>
>>1302468
Pretty much agree...

still not 100% convinced this is a real old-style bubble yet, we've had some false starts before

now you are just getting overly delusional and emotional.

new opportunities will always come, never buy based on emotion or temporary hype, buy with rationality

I would love it if it wasnt a bubble and its just finding a new equilibrium, but its just so volatile.. I think its another bubble. hope im wrong tho

as for the chinese.. Im pretty sure alot of average chinese are getting swept up on the hype and buying.. Some miners might liquidate after mining gets too unprofitable after halving.

A crackdown might not affect the prices as chinese will just find ways to bypass restriction. Will also drive additional trading volume to western exchanges, which is good for us.

im optimistic for now, but who knows really

God damn, Coinbase is nuked right now.
>>
>>1302578
dont simply buy it. Try to buying it cheap. When you simply buy it you take the lowest offer of someone that have bitcoin. The way i do it i place a order to buy lower than the the orders to sell. this way you save money.

Ethereum is rising faster than bitcoin.

If you want to double your money, buy bitcoin.

If you want to multiply it by 100 buy ethereum

Drop from $716 to $650

Looks like it'll be a dip from here
>>
>>1301660
How long is long term in BTC's case?
>>
>>1303597
4 months to 1 year

Longest has been a 2 year wait for anything noticeably profitable
>>
>>1303363
Damn, bro, it's sad to see someone cope this hard.

It'll be OK, you'll still be able to buy when they're $10k and its your only option
>>
>>1303597
>>1303701
Actual long term to
>replaces a significant amount of global financial activity [...] we are talking millions of dollars
...would likely be on the 10+ years scale though. Think of the time it took the web to really mature.

Agreed the next spike should be much less than that however.

Always thought the next spike would come when some Lightning Network variant is proven and starts getting implemented across wallets. Maybe that'll be the spike after this one :^)

Looks like the $700 area is strong resistance. If we push and hold through we should see smooth sailing up to the $900 area where we will be met with some more resistance.
>>
there will be a much larger dip before it reaches the peak. I'll buy then.

Yea man, even a basic pleb like myself knows about "Buy low,Sell high". But what if we haven't seen the actual peak? what if the current btc rate is still a bargain compared to where it's about to go? I'm going to kill myself if i miss on another insane peak. I'm ready to bet 688 dollarinos just to find out
>>
>>1305011
I first bought BTC, at maybe $6... I then excitedly watched it go up to ~$30.... Aaand then slowly crash. Right down to near $3. Halved my original investment. Felt a little sad desu. I'd missed that $30 peak and the chance to make a few $1000.

But, I kept holding, because I believe in the tech and the likelihood of it becoming something huge.

Buy if you think you can hold through a long crash like that. Buy if you believe in the tech and its chance to go much higher. But don't buy just because the price has risen recently.
