Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I was wondering what you guys might think because it has to do with education which translates into how you are going to make money.

I just finished my first year of college with a 3.8 GPA majoring in accounting. I know the first year is generally a lot easier, but I was wondering if college has been dumbed down for diversity quotas and to bring in people with low IQ for the sake of equality. I know things will get harder when I go around to getting my CPA. Oh and what do y'all think about choosing the accounting root. I am doing a summer course on accounting and am almost done and like it so far even if it is boring to some. Thanks

Another thing I wanted to add to was this. Am I the only person that is taking college seriously? Most people just seem to do the bare minimum and are completely disinterested. Lots of my classes are 1/3 full during the normal classes and for the final the room is generally packed.

College hasn't been dumbed down for diversity so much as it has been commercialised. American universities will pass a student that should fail because otherwise that student will simply pickup and move to another college, taking their tuition fees with them. Normie middle of the roads students like you get pushed up to higher GPS and now we've got a saturation of people getting 3.5+

Checkout GPA converters like http://www.foreigncredits.com/Resources/GPA-Calculator/
Where you can see that students getting Cs (GPA2)in Australia and Europe (places with strong public universities) would be getting As/HDs in America. These places have also had a broadening and diversification of their students yet didn't have the grade inflation.

>Another thing I wanted to add to was this. Am I the only person that is taking college seriously?
Yes, it should be another place to continue adolescence and have a laugh.

Are you at a very good school? If not, then yeah most people are probably just trying to graduate so they can try to find a job in an office as soon as they can once they graduate. They probably don't enjoy what they're doing, but think it's the most practical thing they could do.

Doesn't mean there aren't others who are interested, but honestly if you're in your first year, there's probably a few students who know pretty much all of what is currently being taught, because they have an interest in the area.

But again, yes most people don't actually care to learn about anything in college (maybe they do, but getting a good grade trumps everything, and the two don't always correlate)

A lot of those kids have rich parents who make them go to college. They don't actually give a shit. And school wants to take their money anyways so they do dumb it down. Also schools look bad when the dropout rate is too high therefore they "help" the students out. This is somewhat less so in science and engineering but still holds.

Just keep getting straight A's network with professors, get to meet them ask them to hook you up with an internship and get on building your resume asap.

I'm a white dude and like 5% native and have got so far 3,000 bucks through one aboriginal scholarship for my grades, not including another 1,500 one soon. And the kicker? I can get these over and over each year. Metis people are seriously fucking stupid and status Indians get free college and I am yet to see one at any educational faculty. From Canada btw.

Undergraduate studies are not taken seriously, least of all by actual researchers.
High calibre researchers afford our freedom by running the adult daycare that is undergraduate degrees.

If you had something impressive about you (built anything meaningful? Significant media attention? Thought leadership/awards?) you would be invited to work within a centre/unit.

For the record, successful entrepreneurs are often given adjuct professor positions. You need to make an impact. Impressing the professor who got stuck with teaching duty is not enough of an impact.

Good luck mate, THINK HIGH ORBIT.

MS Accounting grad here, CPA bound. Accounting programs are usually accredited. I think you should be good. I graduated from a pretty well known business school, no where near the best, got a fulltime offer from EY. Had 3.5 undergrad, 3.4 grad, tax and had two jobs, a campus one and a tax internship.

Like one of the other anons said, network (Beta Alpha Psi just to get your feet wet), get an internship (even a volunteer/bullshit one is better than bone) and get the 150 and get out. Hopefully if you get into a big 4 or mcgladrey or grant Thornton they'll cover your costs for the CPA course.

Highly recommended accounting

Public universities have been dumbed down because it's a pyramid scam.

What school do you go to?

I think a lot of the people getting metis scholarships and bursaries are like you and just kind of blend in with other whites. The only time it's noticable a lot is when you guys tan and skin turns really brown. But there's not many classes during summer.

First year classes aren't much. Wait until you have to do consolidation and tax
