I'm on track for a 13.5% return over about a year.

Is that good?
It was a conservative investment in 1/3 index funds and 2/3 dow dividend stocks.

I'm in it for the long haul and I've lost enough money over the years on stupid trades to learn that asset protection is just as important as making money.I'm happy to beat the S&P 500, which most people can't do.

No, because you should develop your own strategy. Also because my strategy has to change because the market is changing.

I wouldn't buy more than two or three tickers though. You need to know what you are buying.
