Nah it's never 1% for more than a couple of hours during altcoin pumps or dumps.
Usually it's 0.0something a day

I've been doing this on Poloniex for a couple weeks now. I'm getting daily rates of about 0.029% for two day loans, so that's around 11% a year. Not great, but those bitcoins would just be sitting there otherwise.

I didn't pay attention to this at first, but you're right. If you want it to compound close to daily (at whatever rate you get), then you'll need a bot to reinvest for you.
