It's a tough one. The UK market is already 11% or so off its peak, so our losses are more limited.
I just hold a few gold miners (but I bought them when they were cheap) to protect myself against a downturn.
Another option is to invest in companies operating in Russia. They are already in a recession and valuations are very low already. Raven Russia looks pretty good as a value play.

Wait for a crash and then once it starts to slow begin DCA back in.
Don't sell, but maybe accumulate new cash and build up a large opportunity reserve instead of putting it immediately to work in stocks.
That's what I'm doing.
