I was told that you could make decent money harvesting gold & other metals from computer scrap.
Is this true? Or is this just one of those things where you'll be putting in too much effort for too little return?

Someone actually typed this out.

Yes and no. If you live in an area that gives a shit about the environment it will be tough. Is you live somewhere you can dump the leftover scrap and harmful chemicals in a ditch go for it.

There was a poster on here awhile ago who went into this industry.
He was making 200k or so but had a 15million dollar facility. Sounds like you will need volume, equipment, and most of all buyers.
But if you did this with random junk I'm sure you might be able to get 50 bucks if you know what you're doing.

i've been told that if you're just going solo or with a friend, it is best to just focus on the processors and not on like mother boards or ram cartridges
at a ridiculous scale sure. but you likely don't have that kind of capital.

yeah if you find a butt load of old, and i mean OLD computers, then it would be a decent HOBBY. but in reality and with new computers, its really just a waste sadly. my opinion, never tried it. just doesn't seem like enough gold for the effort you put in. if you cold get an ounce a day then hell yeah! but an ounce is actually a lot!
You probably couldn't make much like this without a huge facility but when I worked at Staples, there were these Asian guys that would buy printers, take out the print heads and then bring the rest back for free recycling. Apparently they sold the printheads for some good money. Been trying to figure out how they pull this off exactly, but nothing so far. Any ideas?
