Just like any other welfare program. In order to get welfare you have to be actively looking for a job for 3 months, and the money you get is enough to let you eat and live under a roof. Besides, you have to be over 20 years old to get this benefit. I am 19 for another 2 months. Don't fall for the socialist Sweden meme.

I'm not paying for it. It's my mother's apartment, she currently lives with her husband somewhere else, and I live here until I can move somewhere and take care of myself. I work as a jump-in at a factory, so my salary is never guaranteed. I can't move out since it's not guaranteed. No landlord would let me.

I don't care if I have to work at a boring office job or at a factory, as long as I get paid by a schedule so I can be sure I will manage it I will be fine.

There are lots of people here who halfass it, but they do so on the backs of hardworking family members, not just the government. Of course there are exceptions, but those typically are single mothers with multiple children. You wont be able to come here by yourself and afford rent and living expenses without working 40+ hours a week

You might be able to make it in the Midwest, we have shitty apartments that go for 400 a month here (sometimes even less).

By that I mean Indiana and Kentucky for example. I would not move to anywhere that has a well known city.

I know people who make it by on 30k a year as a FAMILY and make up the rest on welfare or food stamps.

But you might still have some trouble, you need proof that you are allowed to work or you will be competing with Pedro and Jose for under the table work, and no one is going to pick you if you're white.

Your biggest obstacle is a work visa. I've been through the US work visa gamut, and it's a real horror show. Unless you have specialized skills, you may not even qualify, unless you want to work under the table for peanuts, as one poster implied.

your best bet is florida. you can find apartments for $600 in a decent area. oregon is another good place. im from southern cali, so i have a bias towards being by the coast. oregon would have slightly similar weather to sweden, minus the winters. florida is tropical and may be too humid and uncomfortable. washington, colorado and northern cali are also cheap. AVOID THE BIBLE BELT, even though its cheaper. in any case,youll have a hard time signing a lease without a job. you might have to live in a motel for a month or two. some places even require that youve been working for at least some months. my place asked for 4 paycheck stubs, thats two months worth.

what happens if i scam the tsa? for example i alter my fingerprints with laser printer (they will of course wear off and it reverts to my normal fingerprint over time) and i just say i was born in he us but lost my papers? will i get an id?

What about citizenship issues? How easy would it be to get a job there, and eventually become a naturalized citizen if one stays there long enough?

What about schooling in the US? Would that help? Also, would the quality (e.g. Ivy League) of schools affect the chances of getting citizenship?
