Need advice, apologies if this is elementary bullshit;

I live in Canada, and things aren't looking good for our dollar, or our industry. I have $10k I have been sitting on and I don't know what the smartest move would be to protect it or encourage some growth, I want to pay for my kids' school one day, my mortgage and house is already paid off. Should I go with a TFSA and invest low risk, or do something else?

Buy a bunch of Temple Hotels and put it in your TFSA.

They own hotels in Alberta, including half of the market in Fort McMurray. They got fucked when oil went down, but the fire is a real blessing for them.

What, they're going to cash in on insurance and expand?

Downtown is fine. But the outskirts and a lot of housing got destroyed. There's going to be a lot of people needing accommodation there for years.

I would buy some VRX.T on the TSX or maybe some gold/oil etfs if you're going long

Buying on the NYSE sucks cause we pay 25 percent more with our Canadian dollar

Just throw it in a TFSA for now, which you should be trying to max out anyways.

So it'd be better to just leave the funds in a TFSA instead of investing it?

I might consider the VRX.T since I don't want to chance too much with stocks outside safe bets, how much would be a reasonable amount to start with? I'd add a small fraction from my monthly income regularly.
