What books are essential /biz/ literature?
>>
Dont buy The Ascent of Money. It has a free fucking documentary covering the whole book on youtube.
The list of books typically posted is too much. No one has time to read 100+ books.
I think as a community we need to narrow it all down to less than 10
>>
>>1230088
>/biz/
>caring about what Adam Smith said

all /biz/ seems to care about is Ayn Rand and whichever select passages from Hayek and Friedman that support their views.
>>
>inb4 someone posts that shitty infograph with all the "git rich quick" books in it
>>
>>1230094
I mean, I don't know.
Personally I'd go with as far and combined view of the things, but as a basis I'd go for;

The Essays of Warren Buffett
The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande
2-3 books on trade psychology and behaviourial things
2 books on Quality and Leading both (Juran is probably way too long for most people here, it's about 1800pages but it's a godtier book.)
Corporate Finance by Berk and DeMarzo or
(Corporate Finance by Ross, Westerfield, Jaffe), depending are you American or European.
Value Investing: From Graham to Buffett and Beyond by Greenwald, Kahn, Sonkin, etc

Google a bit on economical schools, obviously unless you're the extreme edge Sartre loving faggot, you'll not be going with premodern or early modern and end up with one of the modern ones ((Post, New etc)Keynesian, Chicago, Carnegie, Austrian or whatever you feel like works)

Seriously, it all depends on what type of things you want to go for. You need to explore what kind of a risk taker you are and what you feel comfortable in, what works for me won't work for you.
Input is appreciated, maybe it's time to do a Wall of Text and send it to the mods for a Sticky.

Don't forget "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, I remember when a couple years back all the bankers and business men were so hyped for that book. It isn't a bad book, but how everybody was hyped for it, was just plain ridiculous.
>>
>>1230088
The wolf of wall street and the big short

You can also watch these movies if you are not feeling like reading
>>
Depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go.

To be a top player you'd need to know all the people and agencies in charge of say $1B+ and what they do and why they do it.

Economics is pretty cool, but its soft not hard.
and the hard stuff mashes it back into place. pretty fucking fast.

Also:

>The Millionaire Next Door
Savings is more powerful than earnings. American consumer culture is killing the middle class and the vast majority of millionaires are simple people who make decent money but saved hard and lived frugal.

>Common Sense on Mutual Funds
The financial services industry is a joke and you need to dispel all the stock bullshit that /biz/ falls for. Just buy Vanguard funds.

>Devil Take the Hindmost
A brief history of stock fads and manias so you can recognize it and know what to avoid (i.e. /biz/ falls for stupid fads like meme stocks and cryptocoins).

>Your Money and Your Brain
How to deal with your irrational instincts when it comes to your investments. The morons who cashed out in the 08 crash lost their savings, while the sensible who just held on saw all their value bounce back - which happens every single time.

Then just pick a lazy portfolio and stick with it:

where'd you get this list?
Also, there seems to be a lot of historical books, ones that have been on my list for a long time.

What do they have to do with business? I can definitely see that historical sources are great for learning about economic and political relations, but are these particular books all about the economic and political implications of historical events, or are they just general historical knowledge?

I've compiled this list over the decades, starting in a little journal, later moving to a text document on a PC. I've read every one of these books cover to cover. Many of the older ones were just on the bookshelves at home growing up and had notes written in them. Some of the books were so good that I bought my own copy part way through to take my own notes and build up my own shelves. I highly recommend that you download/checkout/buy these books and take your own notes along side or in the margins as you read.

These books have everything to do with business. Business, Politics, Economics, History, they are all deeply intertwingled. Within the pages of these books you will find a wealth of knowledge. The ideas, events, analysis, and commentary contained in these books shaped every aspect of the world in which business is done.

I really want to stress how important it is to just read and take notes. Do a little bit every day. Make it a habit. Start now.
Even one hour spent reading any of the books on this list is more valuable than spending 8 hours doing equity/stock analysis.
If you really want to be wealthy you can't afford to not be reading. While the mechanics, mathematics, and fundamentals of finance are important, not everyone can be sufficiently proficient and lucky to build wealth with that knowledge alone (I can post a list of finance related writings if there is interest).
This list is already distilled down from the much larger list of books I have read in Economics, Business, Politics, and History.
But if you want some of the top choices that are probably /biz/ approved:

Principles of Political Economy and Taxation (1817) - David Ricardo
Wealth of Nations (1776) - Adam Smith
Public Opinion - Walter Lippmann
All Art Is Propaganda - George Orwell
The Prince - Niccolo Machievelli (Author), Ninian Hill Thomson (Translator)
The Road to Serfdom (1944) - F. A. Hayek
The Art of War - Sun- tzu

Those are great books.
But you wont know how to invest.
I highly recommend those book also.
Its great general knowledge.

finance books would be interesting

I feel like this list is very good for general business, but not the pure investing that many people here are into. Reading is really important for anyone to be successful. Having in-depth background knowledge about many subjects is incredibly useful in business and in life. That is why Warren Buffett can understand all the business ventures of BRK, and ultimately why he is so successful.

Can you give advice on note taking?

Thank you very much for your reply.

However, have you personally got wealthy by implementing the knowledge acquired from these books? Be honest. I have absolutely no doubts that these books are at least somewhat useful. However, we are on 4chan, and as far as I am aware, you might very well be a 17 y.o. neet living in his mom's basement parroting information you have found on blogs, messageboards, etc. (if that's not the case please don't take it personally, it's just that this kind of stuff happens ALL THE TIME, especially on the Internet).
Can you please provide some sort of evidence for your wealth, or at least write a /concrete/ example of how the information from these books has helped you in real life?

Thank you!

Its a textbook about the financial market
Not a feel good self help book.
Not a discourse on political science.
Read it, and do the exercises, and apply what you have learned.
Its a finance 101 textbook tho.

Bump. I want my reply from Readinglistbrah.
