It's essentially as useless as facebook, only even less entertaining because you literally don't give a shit about anything people post there. The only people who will contact you through linkedin are shit-tier recruiters or people looking for a job. The only people who benefit from LinkedIn are the online marketers who get 10k valid emails per 'ebook'.

It's not like it will kill you, so why not. I guess it's impact on your career depends on your field.
