I'm trying to open my own dildo business. Exactly how would I go about doing this attracting ONLY gay people as my main demographic?

Name your business Guybrator.

Tools specifically designed to fit the male's needs. Do research and learn everything about male anus pleasure. Good luck, faggot.

ohhhhhh boy. do you have a business plan? what kind of materials are you going to be using? what is your production method? there are so many steps here that I am 100% sure you are not thinking about. do you have any prototypes? what are you using to make your models? are you an artist or do you have any on retainer? talk to me dude. I was briefly involved in a start up who tried to break into this exact market and it is way more complicated than you would think.

Pretty much this for any start up. Even if you've got a shit offering, you're just burning your initial investment if you don't have these kinds of ducks in a row.

word. we encountered so many profit breaking hurdles within the first month that we knew we couldn't compete because the competition had several legs up on us. I'm not saying its impossible but unless you have a team of really smart people who know how to get around such hurdles you had better fall back and reformulate your plan. for example: do you know how to create a perfect product? it took us thousands of dollars and a couple hundred hours of trials and errors that gave us a product that didn't have "bubbles" in the final product. You need an industrial degasser btw which isn't cheap and if you only have one there is no chance in hell you will be able to fulfill orders.
>>
anyways op probably abandoned this thread but I'll be checking it and if you have any questions I'll try to answer for you dog. Bad-Dragon was our competition at the time and I'd be glad to offer what little insight I have to help you edge them out but I might not respond in a timely fashion.
>>
I have abandoned this thread. I'm not actually gonna start up a dildo business. I'm actually surprised you guys actually took it seriously and legitimately gave advice.

I would like to start a dildo business. What do I need to become the next bad dragon?

SRS I like the idea
>>
>>1224491
why are you surprised we took it seriously? this is a board dedicated to such things. if you want help occasional you'll find people who are willing to help you. /biz/ is actually a really sick board full of people willing to talk about things despite the crypto and penny stock shill shitheads.
>>
>>1224495
money and talent. you need people who are experienced in modeling. you need people who are experienced in logistics. you need someone who knows materials. you need someone who can handle customer service. you need a social media team. this is the bare minimum.
>>
Just shill it here.

You should sell shampoo bottles that have flared bases and come in various sizes. They would lack the sharp edges of regular bottles and the shampoo would be safe to use as lube. They would look like regular bottles and can be sold in any store without people knowing the real purpose unless someone were to spend time looking it up.

is it true that BD does some unscrupulous things to retain their dominance?
I've heard rumors both around here and sometimes even on their own forums
I can't quite imagine what sort of things a company like that would be capable of doing with that kind of market
on the other hand it could all be fiction and falsehood
what I'm saying is its hard to find information on this, and I'm interested not only in dirt but some of the other "hurdles"
I do know that the process that BD settled on was sacrificing a lot of cost for a debatable amount of improvement, but do you think doing something similar would be necessary for a competitor, or in other words, are people more picky in general these days, or is it just a premium thing
does that mean your startup was meant to be premium as well?
>>
>>1224347
Sell the dildos and buttplugs and whateverthefuck but if you really want to get gay guys there you might want to consider having a fridge with some cheap bear, have a couple couches to lounge on maybe an airhockey table etc. basically you want to make it as "not sexually deviant" as possible; make it a place where when they come in they're not at all judged and they are treated with respect, decency and camaraderie. I'm not expert but I can only imagine that most gay sex toy shops are these filthy dungeons where only a minority of gay people would feel comfortable entering.

We were in the start up phase when BD was about a year into production. At the time BD was being heavily marketed as a safer/premium alternative to their competitors, who were not using silicone but some kind of PVC material (I believe, could be mistaken) and are often called "jelly dildos". I remember when BD first came out I was seeing a lot of forum posts on various furry sites unrelated to BD linking to studies that claimed products made with this material were carcinogenic. This may have been BD, it may not have been (it also may not have been true, its been a while but the only source I ever saw came from Greenpeace and the study involved feeding large amounts of the material to rats).

Aside from running negative ad campaigns through social media I'm not really sure what else a company like them could do to muscle out competition that would be considered dirty, but whether or not BD was behind the flurry of postings it certainly was effective because their competition eventually changed their production method and materials used.

One edge of ours was going to be streamlining the shipping process by only selling inventory products instead of custom. I'm not sure if you have ever ordered from BD but even single item orders can take 2 months, and this is not uncommon. BD has since added an option to buy from their inventory on hand with a promise of next day shipping or its free, so there defiantly was demand for that kind of purchasing. We were going to stand out from BD by making smaller more accessible toys. The idea came when a friend purchased the smallest toy they offered and found it to be unusable. BD is kind of known for being marketed towards size queens but honestly not every furry wants to be fisted... well, I think. We never really got that far.

This is a really rambling post and I'm sorry about that but I'll try to say something helpful before this is over. If you're going to be moving into the fantasy/furry market just realize you're moving into a niche market that has been pretty well carved out by BD. They make a premium product and have a massive amount of brand recognition behind them. However, There certainly are products they don't have and people they don't cater to. When you first start out going to furry conventions and getting a spot at the dealers den is a must. A social media team is also a must. BD bought e621, probably the largest furry porn sharing site, just to run banner ads. There really aren't that many places to advertise your product so it's going to have to be done at the ground level. They also own Toypics which is basically a camwhore site for people to show off them using BD toys. Really brilliant stuff out of them.

I guess I'd also say be careful. These guys have a lot of money to reinvest in their company and they have a lot of talent on hand to crank out new products. Now that I think about it, there was a site (might have been exotic erotics) who were the first to introduce a "muzzle" masturbator. Basically it was a little fox face you stuck your dick in. People went wild for it and in a very short amount of time BD had three competing products. Some people might call that underhanded but honestly their finished product ended up looking better. I'm not really sure how the market responded to it though. I only kind of casually pay attention these days.

Good luck. If I was unclear or you have any other questions feel free to get back at me.
>>
>>1225399
thanks for your response back
it does seem like there's a pattern of BD not being willing to do something people want unless someone else tries to do it
you mentioned the muzzle, but they also have the mini sizes and vibes and even their user submission site now, all of which someone else had tried first
I suspect they will get back to non-anthro stuff too as soon as they get a significant competitor on that front
maybe they're business doms or something
>>
>>1225544
>it does seem like there's a pattern of BD not being willing to do something people want unless someone else tries to do it

Honestly at this stage for them is that really such a bad idea? Basically they let somebody else spend the money and take the risk on a new product and if there is a positive response they can create a better version given their better resources.
