How about something that's not bleeding money like my menstruating wife?

Huh? It didn't lose 3% in a year.

If you're relatively young I'd use 4k to invest in an ETF and the rest to launch one/multiple products online. Investing in the market is good but 7% percent returns every year are shitty relative to what you could make actually selling something.
With 4k you could take a cheap course on selling products on Amazon and then find multiple products on Alibaba to sell. Some will fail but you only need one winner and 4k is enough to launch a bunch of different products. Or you could take a cheap course on marketing products on facebook or google and then use the rest to create a product (ebook, your own course, etc,) then buy a shitload of Facebook/google adsense ads to promote it. Making money online is as simple as finding what people are searching for, creating a relevant product, and using targeted ads through amazon/facebook/google to drive traffic.
