Hey guys,
This thread is to inspire each other with potential business ideas. I'm convinced one doesn't need world-changing ideas/products to make good money.

The current fields which I think are interested:
- App messenger. Whatsapp and LINE are all nice, but I feel there could be space for a "funny" messenger where you can share your memes with your best friends, do all kind of funny graphic shit. It's very vague but I have a feeling there's something.

- ETH apps: I'm kidding I still don't understand how it works really

- Tinder competition: I feel like Tinder is already too old and doesn't offer good enough features. Some kind of CHECKOUT feature would be great, you'd be able to talk to the girls in the same coffee shop, gym etc.

Come up with ideas or just general trends.

Also, am I the only one who browses new startups on Angelist and think "meh I don't see anything truely exciting here"?
Seems like a lot of new startups are just not so interesting anymore, or maybe I'm jaded.
>>
>>1149340
It's because truely inovative people don't go to a stupid TV show to sell their ideas.
>>
>>1149344
Angelist is not a TV show. It's a platform where startups and investors meet.
>>
Bump, I'm sur biz people have ideas.
>>
I am thinking about starting a product that's microwaves with TV screens on them. Anyone think it could work?
>>
I like the 'funny' messenger idea, definetly has some sustanance to it, but don't know exactly how we would make it different.

My idea was apps/games for VR, both total-systems like Occulus, and other ones that you slide your phone into (like Cardboard). In fact, I paid some dude in india $30, and he made me a full iOS app that works with cardboard, but it costs $100/year to actually list it on the itunes store.

my idea is invent a faster toaster. 15 second perfectly toasted bread
>>
Anon, there's new Tinder competitors coming out at a pace of 10 per week. Each with a "special quirk". Many are even based on the same code and just re-skinned, and the seller of that code likely made more than any of them will kek.
>>
>>1150336
How big of a project would you trust with an outsourced coder? Also are you worried that they may steal your idea?

Here's a legit good idea: make interactive VR porn compatible with the new penis controllers.
>>
>>1150432
people know and want this so bad but are waiting for someone to make the first move and then copy pasta that shit and offer cheaper price.
>>
>>1150465

There are already several sites dedicated to VR porn, and at least two shipping dick twisters. What are you waiting for?
>>
>>1150430
Honestly, most outsourced coders just wanna get the job done, and not deal with anything. And I don't worry too much about someone stealing ideas, since then nothing would ever get done.
>>
One of my more recent ideas is, simply put, a competitive social media that forces people to share content. Maybe put in a daily content requirement, or some sort of a time limit. Add some sort of a sense of urgency. Something akin to actual life.
>>
>>1150883
To add to this, I think that the reason that Snapchat and Vine are so successful is because of the strict time limit (vine) and fleetingness (Snapchat). They both add gamey life like elements to social media.
>>
a really good idea is one which makes a lazy person's life easier
>>
A potatoe restaurant. Like you can get fries or hash browns or a baked potatoe etc and put different meats and cheeses etc

Like chipotle type serving style but potatoe

I guess I'll have to dig into Unity for VR then.
It sucks because i don't like 3d games, i'm more a 2D game maker, I like the retro feel.

Though VR games seem to me like it's gonna be AAA productions (millions dollars invested), you think there's still gonna be room for indie devs? If so, what kind of games would it be?
But yeah i get VR is hot right now.

I'm still convinced there app dozens of billions dollar simple app ideas at the moment.

I think with a good amount of cool design, small but funny features, a "crazy" messenger could be fun.

Whatsapp feels corporate, and LINE is too asian.

I'm actually thinking about mixing the 4chan concept (having to post an image at each post) with a messenger app.. I still haven't figured it out but there is something to it for sure.

Actually: a new kind of 4chan for mobile, with real time notifications, think whatsapp but each conversation is a 4chan thread. That could be good.

Whatsapp is very serious. I'm thinking about a funny messener, and im not talking about emoticons.

Think of it as a mix between 4chan and a messenger

I've only seen them in Taipei, but it's a chain I think they have them all over.

Buy domain names which large companies might be interested in and buy banned urls in China or Russia.

I have an app idea that is relatively good but will require a fuck ton of coding from what I've gathered. I'm only a first year student and I've tried start up a group for some entrepreneur competitions but we were working on a different product and nobody is interested in my one. I only have a bit of experience with Java and I don't have the general experience some people have with Android studios. How do I find people that can help me out. I'm in engineering so I can't really go around to the computer science students to see if any are interested. Any info/tips would be helpful.

Assuming the people in charge of VR platforms don't fuck up somewhere and keep making progress VR apps is a great potential market. Especially since there are so many existing apps ideas that you can practically clone and VR-ify.

$100 a year isn't a half bad price either. Is that just a flat rate or do they jack it up depending on how popular your app is?

question about this. if i reserve a domain on godaddy for 12$ a year, have i then 'bought' the domain? or is there a difference between 'reserving' and actually 'owning' a domain?

Pantry catalog

It keeps track of all the food you bring in, keeps usage statistics, and tells you how long things last until they expire and how long they last until you finish them.

Its designed to optimise your food purchasing experience with generated lists and access to recipes you can add via a standard.

The hurdle is developing a database of food statistics and getting the method of tracking applied on foodstuffs standard like a barcode.

All it would be is a sticker with a 2 part passive RFID. The first part is the food ID which is similar to a barcode. The second is a unique random number used to track the individual packages.

My idea: To the user, they never interact with it other than asking to "recommend me a shopping list". But under the hood its checking how often it leaves the pantry per cycle. How often it stays until its gone for 5 hours (then the system assumes its gone forever). Checks for nutritional information. It also checks for combinations of items being taken out at once.

I believe in this idea. I just don't know how to get this adopted. Its too big and out of nowhere.

I find food startups very boring.

Eating and cooking is very simple.
