So my dad is selling some property he has abroad and wants to invest that money somewhere. He asked for my help, we live in Houston. We should have about 200k in a few months.
What's a good relatively safe investment we could make? I was thinking houston real esate, buying a few apartments and collecting rent. We're otherwise financially stable and I graduate from College with a Logistics degree in May.

Apartments may be ok, but you may not have enough for something really good. I'd split that up into 7-8 chunks, buying SFH on mortgage and renting them out.
But, that's only if you want to go into physical property.
Other choices are RE notes, triple net, and maybe even hard money lending.
Don't know. If I were you, I'd either go with SFH or just plain old S&P500.
But, what's your actual goals and timeframe for this money?

Hey guys what is the property market like in Houston?
Was there a collapse with the oil price? Or is it OK?
I know Calgary is fucked

It is. Ignore that shit.

Nah Houston is much more economically diverse than it was in the 80s. Housing hasn't budged an inch, and it hasn't been "cheap" for years. I don't really know who started the "Houston is cheap" meme but it's only true if you live in a nigger neighborhood or 30 miles away from downtown.
Sucks about Calgary lad, the place I'm working at did tons of business in Canada. I've always wanted an excuse to get sent there.

Yeah man I left the Auld World for Canada. Thankfully not Calgary, stopped in Halifax. Fuckin delighted, there's shiploads going on here.
If you do go to Canada on business make sure to take a couple days to see the wilderness here, it's like nothing I've seen before.
But if you want to work make sure you have a trade - the professions are treated like shit here, tis mad hard to make big money
