They invest your unsettled funds after a trade.

Probably never. So far they only have plans on an Australian beta ( https://robinhood.com/au/).

Poor fag starting with 40 bucks. I plan to add 40 weekly and go long on most everything. Mainly buying cheap utilities and oil and gas. Like a savings account that yields more than 3% I hope.

G'luck other newbs

Of you plan on going long and continually putting in money, buy index ETFs.
Don't gamble.

So this is a company that you open an account and invest with.

NOT a company that works with your existing accounts on *other* companies (like Mutual Fidelity) and manages your stocks/trade on those for free.

$VOO is good
Most ETFs are pretty expensive though.
>>
>>1133870
I started with $100 and gradually added more. Any amount works as long as you can buy a couple shares and test it out. If you get serious then before you start investing a lot of money you need to do proper research.

Investopedia dot com will help you get started
>>
>>1133844
Cpxx is a dollar under what you told everyone to go all in into. You are unreliable as the rest of us and your trip code doesn't make up for that

Yeah its not like I haven't told you guys a million times that my word is not finicial advice and that it is only food for thought. In the end it's not my fault so I don't know what to tell you? Set a stop loss? You could always follow blindly on 4chan tho, that's cool and fun
>>
>>1133876
Yep. They are basically mutual funds that trade like stocks. Since they track an index, you are buying into a basket of stocks instead of gambling on companies you don't understand.

I would recommend VTI since it's cheaper than VOO.
>>
>>1133903

Thanks, I'm on the right track then. I've been messing around on ivestopedia and Ive done pretty good so far.
>>
>>1133911

They cost fees, how is that done in RH?
>>
>>1133917
it's imperative to use another charting program alongside robinhood. They have shitty graphs with limited price action information. Almost 100% of the time price quotes on Robinhood are slower then like literally any other place. You want realtime graphing and you want to use candlestick charts. I suggest ThinkOrSwim or TradingView
>>
>>1133911
I think ill watch natural gas as a whole and try out the UNG eft.

i know propane prices are super low right now and it and gas are kinda the same, so when it starts costing me more to fill up my bottles and if the ung starts heading up ill get in early, or now, it seems to be at a super low dip at 6 bucks...

ill do more research
>>
$UPL had an extremely rough day yesterday, as all oil-related stock did. I expect it to go back to $1.10 by the end of the week.
>>
So I've finally deposited money into my account, but when I go to buy, it tells me that I have "Not enough buying power" and that I need to deposit money. I already have more than enough deposited into my account?
>>
>>1133931
completely agree.
>>
>>1133921
The fees are taken right out of the fund so you basically pay it automatically.
>>
>>1133931

Disclaimer: I bought $UPL at 1.17. I read a Value Line report that put it in the $5-10 in the 2018-2020 range.

That report was written a couple of weeks ago before the court approved its debt restructuring. I am long $UPL.

>>1133839

Your funds need to settle.
If you go to your account overview you'll see how much money you can currently play with ( buying power ) and the deposit amount is probably the undeclared deposit section.

Just a heads up, there's a similar 3 day waiting period to access your money after you sell a position. .
>>
>>1133924
If it is your first time, definitely have a good understanding of the industry you want to try to play. It's more than just "the gas at my local pump is cheap now, time to take positions"

I woke up this morning and rememberEd that the report was today at 7:30 pst so I waited for UWTI to dip like it always does before a report and then bought 1k shares. I don't know any energy or oil stocks

I have a question for you. When you withdraw cash how long does it take to get into your bank account?

OK niggers, I finally got my bank account verified and I deposited $100. I wanna invest in Sony. I like what theyre doing with VR and I just read that theyre rolling out a program to teach kids how to code

http://www.geek.com/news/sony-will-sell-a-mindstorms-style-stem-building-toy-this-summer-1649272/

Thoughts on buying a few shares of SNE to get started?
>>
>>1134004
Do you mean WTI crude and Brent? Don't ask me lol
>>
>>1134008
They're stable so you won't make millions over night but it'll teach you what investing means if that's what you're wanting to learn. Plus you'll get to learn what a dividend is and how it works.
>>
>>1134021
This. Big companies like Sony and ford (what a shit stock, seriously the market hates ford no matter what they do) are good first investments.
>>
>>1134021
Yeah I'm not looking to get rich quick. My gf and I are saving money for a house. I'm looking for 1-2 year investments that are relatively safe, but will pay a better return than a savings account.

Looking at Sony's one year chart, it seems like now would be a good time to buy.
>>
>>1134027
Investing money you're saving for a home seems like a bad idea to me.
>>
>>1134027
You may want to instead look into ETFs (scroll up) if you're looking for safety and long term investing. They'll give you returns (minus a fee that comes out of your returns I'm guessing based on my question above) and they're basically a set and forget option. They're good for diversifying.

Otherwise, if you're hooked on Sony, go right ahead, but that means you're fully exposed to whatever happens to and at Sony.
>>
>>1134032
Plus Sony has a rocky track record. They can't go a year without ending up in the news for financial problems or data breaches.
>>
>>1134027
Sony just had a huge rally of any 15% which is unheard of in a blue chip.

Don't expect it to climb much higher.

You'd probably get better performance off an index fund though desu.
>>
>>1134032
I pulled the trigger on 4 shares of SNE to get started.

I'm looking at VTI and VOO and theyre both down from a year ago.
>>
>>1134039
It's your money, do with it as you wish. Just because VOO is down doesn't mean it doesn't return a dividend. That's the point of a dividend, to return value to the shareholders.
>>
>>1134027
Brah. Looking at a line chart on Google is not how you should buy stocks. Use techinical analysis please.

If I buy 1 share of a company for $1 and sell them at $1.01 do you keep the penny? Can you trade multiple times a day? Set buy and sell limits? Im new to this any info would be grand
>>
UWTI reverse split. Does that mean if I should buy in before they become more expensive?

>>1134274
Yes you keep the penny and can trade multiple times a day. You can set buy and sell limits. However, keep in mind funds from sold shares take time to settle, so don't go blowing all your buying power at once or you'll have to wait to use them again. Usually 3 business days.
>>
>>1134274
If you were this precise, no. You don't get to keep the penny, the penny and one additional penny go to the SEC.
>>
>>1134278
Don't change your position. Wait until the price stabilizes and then you decided if it is over/under valued.

You need cash to offset your loses, even if they're incredibly small. Otherwise you'd be playing the market like a slot machine, putting in $15, losing it all quickly, and repeating the same process until you lose $150.

If you had just put in the $150 to begin with, a dip wouldn't make you lose everything, and if it spiked back up higher than the price you bought it - now you're making a profit!
>>
>>1135098
They've been cutting out the bullshit in the company that bleeds money and using it for better things. I can't say much more but remember this is a company involving oil and oil is low, very low, yet they have still been expanding. And again, enjoy a little success faggots.
>>
>>1135172
That's what I was afraid of. But I would rather spend the $150 on food then putting into the stock market. today I bought 400 shares of THLD at .53 and stopped out at .50 losing $12.

THLD ended finishing +80% today and you guys should all watch the pre market moves for this stock on monday
>>
>>1137971

Yea i guess thats one way to put it. I kean 62 percent gain in one day is insane. Id be astonished if it didnt drop a ton on monday. Thats just how ive always seen it work. Ive never seen huge gain one day not be offset the next. I could be wrong, but all of my experience says it will happen.

So with this huge gain were at an overshoot of the value of the stock. The next big drop will put us close to where it should be. Pump and dump at work. Might even undershoot it a little. But this is all 1-2 days of activity. After that you might see a steady incline of the value just because of the good press. Purely psychological, i know but this is how i deal with voliatle stocks.
>>
>>1137989
As long as it takes to just break even.

I bought planning to flip, but it just kept tanking hard. I'll probably double down @ $5 to make the drive down the average and break faster.
>>
>>1137995
You've never seen " huge gain one day not be offset the next"? I am looking at CPXX on the 1 day chart and I see 5 green days in a row. But I completely agree
>>
unless investors think with merck out of the way thresh can make more money if they succeed. but thats just speculating
>>
>>1138007

When I say offset i dont necessarily mean completely. So it closed at +80 today it might open at -10 tomorrow, not -80. But youre still down 10 percent if you bought today. Better to wait for the -10 to happen and buy then rather than waiting for enough growth to happen to put you back at 0 so you can start profiting.

As for cpxx, it didnt have any +80 percent tier astronomical growth days. Its completely reasonable to see 5 green days in a row. Just dont expect it to happen if you see a day 10+ percent. Huge quick growth = huge selloff from all the people shorting

If you profited a few bucks on a 40 dollar investment I'd be pretty happy. I'd only sell if you feel like you the stock value is going to fall. Those gains aren't actual gains until the money is in your pocket.
>>
>>1138168
Decide that before you buy a stock.

Have a clear idea of how much you want to make and don't get greedy. Think in Percentage point gains instead of full dollars or even quarters since you are playing with such a small amount of money.

Stick to that on your trades, and reevaluate when it goes wrong to see if your strategy works and if you are within a comfortable risk threshold.
>>
>>1138338

thanks for the feedback, At what percentage point do you sell?
>>
>>1138491
Depends on the stock. Part of your research should be finding out how volatile the stock tends to be. Check the intraday swings it typically goes through. Robinhood's charts are trash to do this so try Yahoo Finance.

For example, AMD is really volatile and in the past month has been going through 6% dips and highs. So, I set my exit to a 5% gain. This time I "missed" on extra gains since it spiked to +10% but that's the way it goes. I'm not upset about "missed" gains since I already got what I aimed for and I stuck to my strategy.

Discipline separates the traders from the gamblers.
