Professors make their money in academia. They don't fucking have any connections worth a shit in a real world. The ones that they do, they probably share it with 200 other desperate students, which brings me to the next point - those handful of alumns that still keep in touch with the professors are swamped with hundreds of resumes from the school. The competition for the attention of that alumn is not much different than the odds of applying through any other means.

Obviously a shit school doesn't let you do the first 2 effectively. That's why outside of the top schools, business school is almost worthless.

However, if you go to a top school, you're almost guaranteed 100K+ starting, because they need to pad their stats so they can keep charging 60K/yr per student.

Not every professor is there because they suck at business topics, many cycle through teaching and working in their field. Their friends/colleagues that they went to undergrad/grad school with are often successful. It doesn't hurt to talk with them, you never know what you could learn/who you could meet
