you wont be fucked, it just wont really get you anything. its the least powerful degree there is. its not going to hold you back but all it will do is tick off the box for college diploma and nothing else. you can still get a job but it will be entirely through your own efforts in addition to school.

if you study something less fun and more useful, then your degree starts opening doors and making you appealing in addition to qualifying you for those roles.

english degrees are basically a waste. the teaching you how to think bullshit is really not true at all. all of the courses are worthless beyond entertaining you for a while and putting you in a college setting

if you absolutely have to do it, go ahead. but you will regret it once the good days are over and all you have to show is a check box for college degree.

are you a hard worker? are you going to a decent school? are you going to be smug about the fact that you know how many warts Joyce's ass had or are you going to be able to talk about it with regular people? are you an autist? are you smart (be honest)?

lots of attenuating factors here that could make or break you. or rather, mean a lifetime (or at least a decade) being underemployed or getting right out of school with a degree you like and a job (private sector or academia)

also be warned that any english degree worth its salt has a very high burnout rate (anecdotal and personal experience, so i might be wrong)

i'd argue that the least powerful degree would be something like urban planning or gender studies. you know, those newfangled disciplines that haven't been around for very long and as such have a hard time differentiating the hacks from the true academics

Not really. The military will take you, and an officer's salary from the military (if you save and invest it) will pave the way to a solid portfolio.

This is the only real answer. The defence forces are the best paid in the world too, but you'll be sitting on your arse in Naas for the rest of your life. You can also join the Brits too.

That aside, yes, it's pretty much financially worthless. In the outside world, irish universities don't count for shit, even if you develop a Trinity scarf wearing attitude.
