So I currently get my health insurance for me, wife, and kid through my job. If I were to go elsewhere and get an individual type product, what kind of cost am I looking at?

And I want good coverage, not some poorfag shit. Anyone here who owns their own business or works as a contractor or whatever who has this type of health insurance that can give me some ideas.

I did a quick quote on one place and it was almost $1000 per month for good coverage for all 3 of us.

oh a health insurance thread up.

>wageslaving at a basic job.
>need health insurance I don't know where to look.
>need dental insurance but don't know where to look.

I have NO idea where to even start researching on what plans are available, what plan I need, or how much I should be spending.

Just trying to use google-fu is giving me a headache just wading through the crap.

I used to get complete coverage from my old job for my wife and her son. I was laid off though and my new job doesn't offer health insurance so I had to go independent.

I'd recommend getting on the phone and trying to negotiate a better rate. I quoted rates offered from competitors as leverage.

at least 2.5x what you were paying at work

if you're business fails though you can get obamacare credits

dental is whats really gonna ream you in the ass

Realistically you're looking at $900 to $1600 a month depending on some variables, but probably right around $1200-$1300.
This is why so many young people don't have health coverage.
The cheap plans arent worth it. For me the cheapest plan is $330 a month, has a $6000 dollar deductible, covers virtually nothing except extreme life/ death scenarios and has max payout of around $12k. So I'm paying $4k a year to maybe someday if something horrible happens receive a $12k discount on my $200k hospital bill. Wow what a great deal.
And oh, if I don't do it I have to give Obama $695 per year.

as long as you somewhat take care of your teeth you shouldn't need dental insurance, should you? Should i have dental insurance? I wouldn't say the same about health insurance though

>If I were to go elsewhere and get an individual type product, what kind of cost am I looking at?

More, because you are no longer in a block with other people averaging your costs.

>>1102568
>For me the cheapest plan is $330 a month, has a $6000 dollar deductible

If you are young and in good health, you WANT a high deductible plan for the lower monthly rate.
Am I going to have a heart attack tomorrow? Unlikely.
Am I going to be diagnosed with late stage cancer tomorrow? Unlikely.

Realistically, if I'm going into the hospital it's due to a serious injury. I'm not going to waste my time going in for the flu or for a minor cut.

Also get a HSA.
