Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right board for the question, but thought I'd give it a shot. What is best school for an online MBA? Cost is a concern, but there is a happy medium between tons of debt and "oh, where's that school?"

Credentials: I graduated from PSU in '13 with a degree in Energy Business and Finance. I worked for less than a year immediately after as a retail store assistant manager.

From there, I moved to my current job-- customer service/VMI specialist for a large-ish family owned supplier (4k employees.) I'm essentially liason between the company and our largest customer and different departments in our company. I work with demand planning, transportation, sales, production teams, etc. In my own role, I analyze stock levels, turns, order trends, POS trends, promotions, and each part of the supply chain. I meet with the customer, from my counterparts at the replenishment level up to the merchant level. My items within my account are 500MM of a growing 2B business. That comes with daily exposure to upper management.

My company contributes something like 5.5K/year to pertinent continued education. I'd like to advance within the supply chain field while staying under 10k out of pocket per year and having the degree in under 4 years. I'm already 100k+ into undergrad. I feel my GMAT scores will be on the high side of average.

Any recommendations?

ASU Online has the best or close degree in Supply Chain and probably fairly easy to get into at least compared to Ivy League.

Good lead. Thanks for the insight.

Mba or Not, does not matter. 9/10 waste of time.

Could you expand on that?

Indiana University has a fantastic online MBA program that is pricy as fuck. Arizona State University as well, but once again, it's like $60,000 for 2 years.

I'm currently getting my MBA at Purdue University. I'm attending the campus close to me - it's considered community college but I still graduate with a distinguished Purdue MBA. The program will only cost me $14,000 total and about 50% of my classes I take online (the other 50% do not have an online option available).

I'd suggest reaching out to any local universities near you and seeing if you can find an MBA program with a hybrid online/weekend program. It might save you a lot of money. Unless you only have like an Ivy Tech nearby, in that case look for something more reputable.

Also, I'm not sure what state you live in, but Google " 'your state' + online mba" You might be able to find colleges in your state offering a fully online program, so you can still reap the in-state tuition pricing.

An MBA is not for everyone. I'm an aspiring CPA so I needed the extra college credit hours to take the CPA exam, I figured might as well get a higher degree out of it. A lot of people get MBAs thinking it will push their career when really it doesn't.

You didn't meet the Business/Accounting qualifications in Undergrad?

if you're not too fussed about brand name (as this probably isn't a big brand name where you are) then you could consider:

http://www.open.ac.uk/business-school/

you can get a triple accredited MBA for £16k GBP

yup it sounds like some dodgy online school but it is a legit university (they're involved in space exploration even - that Beagle 2 probe that crashed on mars was a project lead by an open university professor)

anyway if you want one for a reasonable price that is properly accredited and run by a place that has been done distance learning for longer than pretty much anyone else then tis worth a look

there are some online MBA rankings here which might be useful:

In my state, you need 150 credit hours to take the CPA exam. Most undergrad degrees are only 120 credit hours.

Jesus.

1) Don't get an online MBA, go to a reputable school

2) Only get this MBA if your company is at least going to pay for most of it, and they gaurantee you a raise/promotion if you have it.

An online degree and more debt is NOT what you need.

MBA's are watered down as fuck these days.

Online MBA's from reputable universities are the same exact curriculum as the full time programs, they just take longer because people work while doing them

Doing research on this right now, was going to apply to my local institution (which is a pretty reputable state school) but did better on the gmat than expected so I'm going to apply to some other good programs. Looks like for online, Indiana, ASU, Florida, and temple are some of the best, as well as Carnegie Mellon

I dunno man, I'm not sure anyone really respects the open uni

Would anyone pursue an online MBA if the military would pay for it?

Currently my situation. Considering the CPA thing with a current 124 credits and a BA in Bus. Admin. (I know I know, shit degree)

Any advice?

The whole points of an MBA are networking and a summer internship. Both are lost if you do it online.

The classes are a joke, no one cares
