Hi folks. So I've read a few books on stocks and it was recommended by Bogle to invest in index funds for long term investments. But for short term speculating on specific stocks do you guys recommend just researching the fuck out of the company? I've read a few books about the different ways to analyze a stock, P/E, growth, value, etc. but also I understand geopolitics and the current events can also have an Impact. Basically my question if I go about this from an analytical approach is there more chance of a successful investment? Or is it just a who the fuck knows game? Also with Iran coming onto the global oil market do you guys expect oil prices to drop further? I'm very interested in oil. Appreciate the input of the professionals of /biz/.

fuck off, ifag.

Why are you interested in the market? What is your goal?

Do you expect to put money into some company and find that you have more money 5 years from now?

Basically, I would try to buy stocks that are oversold on bad news and still have good fundamentals.

I'm interested in investing in companies small companies That will grow within 5 years. Maybe more riskier but with solid analyst have potential

Pick about 10 stable companies that have an edge on their competition (Google, Netflix, etc). Buy once they're slightly lower, and sell once they go back up. Why this method isn't usually recommended is because there's a chance that you'll never see it go back up. However that's often not the case with such massive companies.
Trying to look for the "next big thing" seldom works, which is why no serious investors give a flying fuck about some penny stock that "has potential." No one knows enough about the market to know whether a certain stock will go from $5/share to $50/share.
