It's soul sucking because it's a time-out. You're grounded. Otherwise you would have metrics you have to complete each day and the skilled people could complete them early and leave to enjoy their day.

Since everyone thinks they're the "skilled people", they all long for a system like that, even if they don't realize it and only think "I'm wasting my time" without considering an alternative. Hell, especially if they think like that. Those are the stupid ones.

Unless it's supposedly your passion then yeah. I mean think about it, you're dedicating 9+ hours a day (don't forget commute) to making some other guy rich, while you get paid a pre-determined amount regardless of your effort or performance (granted there's always sales).

I get paid the same $20/hr as a stoner who gets the same as a hyperactive overachiever (who clearly isn't overachieving if he's working with us).

Just go on autopilot, ride the mediocrity wave and dedicate you energy to side ventures.

I'd say from age 18-23 it's completely natural and understandable. However, once you hit like 25+, if you are experiencing more + than -, then chances are that something is wrong

I work an office job in healthcare so it doesn't feel as soul sucking. Still, I'd be weirded-out if I met someone who actually liked their job.
