I thought I'd like the role of being the autistically dedicated to extremely specific tech project. Turns out I don't.
And everyone knows that the money is only good in the beginning, there's basically no real job that you can grow into as a nerd (besides a subpar manager of other nerds).
I'm being harsh as there are other aspects of job satisfaction, but this is generally true.
When I looked up online "what jobs can a programmer transition to?"
It came up with only bullshit answers
>customer service/IT support
>sys admin
>QA
All things that pay less and where you will be treated with even less respect than programmers already are.
What's a real job to get into? Something that will actually provide advancement and won't be at a massive pay cut.
Project Manager and Product Manager are all I can really think of. I bet I could do that internally in 2-3 years, but at least internally I would just top out of my career even sooner doing that.

Well, a programmer gets paid much more than managers in most industries, which is why its hard to get into management as a programmer because you are already expected to be very independent so tech organizations are pretty light in management.
I worked in a consumer healthcare company for a while and everyone and their mothers were "managers" managing groups of business analyst muppets that made less than a good construction worker.
