I miss childhood itself; happiness that was only interrupted by adults. Not knowing for sure if Ronald Reagan and Ronald McDonald were related or not, even farther back, before I even knew what money was. When the pain of folding chair suddenly being closed on my hand, gave me reoccurring nightmares for years. I miss when I could get lost in a 4 bedroom house, or if I rode my bike more than two blocks from home. I miss not caring about religion, politics or the economy. Before my friend from the beach's parents invited me to their church and I saw them crying and convulsing, as my beach friend looked at me, scared, confused, wondering if I knew what to do. I miss not knowing if mermaids were real or not. I miss when a day would go by where I didn't wonder how my life was going to end. I miss adults fawning over me when I used words or knew facts they didn't expect a child to know. I miss heavy rainfall on hot summer days that would fill the gutter of the street with rushing water, and standing in it bare foot, the water rushing around my toes. I miss the comfort of a banana seat bike, and not caring if other people liked my things; before my identity began attaching itself to my belongings.
