This thing is a drobo. It's expensive, don't get me wrong.

But it is fucking FOOL PROOF data storage. I linked the network attached version, but there is a direct attached version if you prefer.

You just slide naked discs into the thing, and it automatically assembles itself into a raid. There is an option for dual disk redundancy.

You can use any combination of hard drives, any size of hard drives, you do not need to match manufacturer or shit like that.

When a drive fails, it automatically starts rebuilding itself on the remaining drives. All you have to do is pop out that drive, and stick in a new one and it automatically rebuilds itself. You can upgrade storage size in a similar fashion. You don't have to know jack shit about raids, you don't need to know jack shit about computers. You just press a lever on the front and it pops out the drive, and you slide in another one.

I currently have one that is effective 7.21 terabytes of storage, and it's only half full. The drive itself is 6 years old.

Oh and that reminds me. If the bay ITSELF fails, you pop out all the disks, put it in a new drobo, and it automatically reconstitutes itself. But thing is pretty fucking reliable, as i said, thing is 6 years old and still tickin'.
