I think people try new things more often these days because it's what makes you stand out and it's easy to make games now, but back then we had small groups of people joining together to form a games company and launch a product with varied input and different techniques and stuff so you ended up with lots of quirky unique shit (see: dungeon keeper etc)

This is precinct assault you begin inside your base you know where the action button is right? you'll need it.

each base has a hover tank generator action button.

hover tanks will seek out the enemy base, when one of your hover tanks enters the enemy base you win.

sound simple? i don't think so.

you can generate jet choppers to protect your base from the air, these base turrets are your last line of defense, any neutral turrets are up for grabs.

My nigger! This was an underappreciated but fantastic game even in its own time. I hadn't thought of it in years but I poured plenty of time into it back in the day. The online versus battles were actually pretty fun too, in addition to the excellent single player campaign.
