I think the only way /b/ could come back is if the world somehow slunk back into that post-90's grunge style "the world is shit but I'm in it" style when people gave a lot less fucks and everything wasn't so closely regulated. The early 2000's really were a strange and baffling time, and /b/ could only ever exist in that capacity as long as that strange and baffling time continued.

- the racism, which started as a tongue-in-cheek thing, became much stronger over time. people used to hate what is today celebrated on /pol/, kekism and the like
- people were... *good* deep down, sure, sexual deviants and perverts, basement dwellers and autists, but it was a uniting spirit. today it's just used to lazily sling slurs at each other.
- /b/ used to be sexually accepting, the weirder and more fucked up the better. today it's weirdly conservative, maybe in the same way that today's youth seems to be more conservative than earlier. there were no endless tiiring discussions about cucks, black porn, and the like.
- there was waaay more OC. you came on here and somebody would have made an elaborate post about something mundane like drinking a glass of milk, and would then turn into an adventure game or some shit like that. honest laughs were had, people were not as aggressive, jaded and just here to attack each other.
- in that regard, /b/ used to be a bit more like /r9k/ today maybe

the reason for these changes I see are the following:

- the users of that time moved on. not just to another board, but in life. lots of them were not hopelessly bad people, and I guess most of them have a family now and no interest in late night memery. 4chan was ultimately born out of boredom, this is no more, people seem to have agendas now.
- the people that followed were (as I discribed) shitty edgy millenials and right-wing nutjobs.
- /b/ used to be waaay slower. even during moots time this already became a problem for which never a good solution was found. if a thread stays on the board for one full day, chances are higher for people really commenting and interacting. in today's stream of low-effort porn posts, eh, what's the point.

- when moot was in charge, he had a plan in place to deal with certain content taking over the board. if a certain movement became too overpowering, it would be banned and a new sub-board would be created. lots of boards like /soc/ came into being that way. today under hiroshima nagasaki's stewardship, there is no stewardship. that's why the fucking, just absolutely boring and super low effort "FB/IG threads" could take over the board like this. quality content looks different.

all in all, it was a community, and being a /b/tard was a badge of honor. today it's just... whatever man. well, all good things don't last, right?

A boy falls in love with a girl.
