So, clearly climate change IS happening and humanity is going to have to find a way to survive. Over the next 100 years we will see mass extinctions. The food chain will collapse, it may be extremely difficult to grow crops. Not to mention we're running out of oil.

So what's going to happen? I believe the rich are going to colonize Mars and the majority are going to be left on Earth living in remote colonies, slowly rebuilding society.
>>
>>744939098
Like in that movie Elysium?
>>
We just recently discovered fracking within the last decade, and we actually have a surplus of oil. That is why gas is so cheap right now you fuck head. The US alone has a surplus of shale that we haven't even touched yet. With improving technologies we will be able to extract more hydrocarbons than ever before. FYI. Merica. MAGA.
>>
>>744939098
Its the peak of hurricane season calm down. if anything it would be pretty cool to watch society end, I think the whole transpiring of events would be scary but interesting
>>
>>744939098
Renewable energy resource tech is one of the fastest growing sectors of the world economy. Eventually, our use of fossil fuels will drop below the level of significance, and things will begin to re-balance. Hell, China is already discussing a possible date for banning all fossil fuels in their country. I believe we'll start seeing a peak and reduction of CO2 production within this century.
>>
>>744939328
Holy fuck.
>>
>>744939098
when the food chain collapses there will be a whole new meaning to eating pussy.
>>
>>744939520
All that surplus oil will be gone in less than 25 years at the pace of current oil consumption in the USA
>>
>>744939742
But the long-term effects of climate change are already in motion.

What are we going to do with no food?
>>
>>744939098
No, retard. It's hurricane season and both Texas and Florida are next to the ocean and are very hot. The world isn't ending. Fucking stop reading The NY Times and go read a scientific journal.

Personally I dont see us leaving Earth. I think we are going to ignore this issue untill it is way too late. This thing we so proudly call civilisation will crumble and fade. Humanity will be nothing more than bones we left behind after we all die
>>
>>744939870
Every respectable scientific journal and research article agrees that there we are going through climate change and that human activity is the main aggravating cause. Stop being a retard and reading all conspiracy shit people post on 4chan or Reddit. It's because of people like you that future generations are doomed to live in a world where fresh air and clean water are things of the past. Hope your country gets sunk and you and your family loose everything in the future, faggot.
>>
>>744940047
I disagree. I think humans are too intelligent to go extinct.
There are places you could survive on Earth in the most extreme conditions anyway.

it is, but the hurricane has shit to do with it
it is fucking hurricane season
>Over the next 100 years we will see mass extinctions
sure hope so, let the underhuman races die out. no more help.
>The food chain will collapse
nah, it will be less food available, but enough in the right regions. a lot of European, and north american regions will have no problem
>Not to mention we're running out of oil.
not in the next 60 years
> I believe the rich are going to colonize Mars
and what colony are you talking about? you watch too much scifi movies. we will not colonize any other planet in the near future
but money still can buy a lot of shit, even if the world goes to hell

>So what's going to happen?
now thats not easy to say. I am pretty sure there will be racial wars. after that a lot of people will be dead. globalisation will start to die off slowly. people will start to live in smaller states again.

I wish I shared your outlook. Sure we're smart and adaptable but the vast majority of the human race are city dwelling tards who could survive two weeks without facebook and nondairy lates. Some people might survive for a time, but that doesnt mean that civilisation will continue. The dinasaurs didnt die out instantly after their climate disaster, we wont either
>>
>>744940204
I dont see the problem, yes humans are to blame so if a few billion starve to death who cares? Doesn't the cause also become the solution to its own problem? Less humans = climate will regulate? Or lemme guess you don't want to be one of the poor souls that dies? Like I said, I would gladly see humans starve to death but we (you and me) make no difference. Put it like this, every house hold goes green, all the rare earth metals required and require smelting will destroy the planet more than burning fossil fuels.. or do you think a primus car with its acidic batteries is good for mother nature? Plus the energy required to melt steel is huge, way more than a large town/ small city (just 1 foundary) the problem is everywhere, even the meat industry is hugely to blame. But no one talks about that, just the fuel in your car and the energy you use to turn on the lights.. cus guess what thats how the government gets your money.. by blaming you

Unlikely
>>744939098
>it may be extremely difficult to grow crops.
Growing the crops we grow today, using the same methods, perhaps.
>>744939098
>Not to mention we're running out of oil.
Oil is a super primitive form of energy, the only reason we still use it is because of the intricate power structures that rely on oil and it's continued use.

Many will die in less developed countries, yes, but we have the means to continue existing for quite some time. Unfortunately, quality of life may diminish as a result of rapid technological advancement in uncertain times.

Humanity has wriggled it's way out of every potential doomsday scenario it unfailingly creates for itself, and will continue to do so.
>>
>>744940989
>Humanity has wriggled it's way out of every potential doomsday scenario it unfailingly creates for itself, and will continue to do so

I'm not so sure about this. The last major climate disaster humanity faced, the lake tobo eruption, nearly killed every human. Sure our technology gives us advantages over our ancestors but when you take it away we are on the same field as our ancestors were. I beleive they were far more capable of living off the land then your average person living in a big city today. I dont think we stand a chance if this goes too much further

No, after a certain point climate change becomes irreversible. For example, there's a shitload of methane trapped in the arctic ice. If it melts all of it will.be released into the atmosphere. Methane is 20 times worse than CO2. Also ice is white and reflects incoming sunlight really well. Less ice means less reflection and therefore it gets even warmer. There are many more mechanisms like this. Even if billions die, after we reached that tipping point things are just going to get worse and worse

Why won't be colonizing mars anytime soon. Unless we start working with Russia.
>>
>>744943019
Sure IF that happens and i was refering stricktly to the bakken oil fields. Theres a lot of oil there but not when compared to current consumption levels.

The bakken oil field has something on the order of 4.3 billion barrels of oil on the high end. Daily oil consumption is somewhere around 20 million barrels PER DAY in the US.

overlooking that humanity is overbreeding the fuck out of this planet. birth rates are fucking skyrocking way past any sustainable level. there may be tons of land mass for people to live on, but there isnt food and resources. hell, weve already outgrown our own economy. not enough work for everyone to live a 1st world middle class life anymore.

humans got about 50 more years tops till everything goes to complete shit and it starts turning into mad max out there. whats sad is it doesnt have to be this way, but we allow religion and greed to dictate literally everything. what we need are more assassinations of political figures. when people dont do their job, they should be removed or executed from office and replaced with someone that will. problem is, noone on the planet can agree with anything, so well all just die out instead of setting up a sustainable culture that promotes life, while simutaneously instilling birth control over the population

Mars is a horrible place to try and live.
You would have trouble growing anything there.
You cannot breathe the air.
It gets very hot and extremely cold.
The atmosphere is very thin so there is around 16 times the normal radiation exposure.
Also staying on the surface during a solar flare could be deadly.
Also the common sand storms on mars are brutal.

It would take thousands of years to terraform Mars..
>>
^^^^
This guy gets it the climate has changed none stop since the beginnings of our planet. A lot more extreme than it has been for the last 20 thousand years. When you get cat 5 hurricanes no where near hurricane season come back bit ching then. For your information most science journals do not say the main cause of the climate changing isnt by man or his actions. For fucks sake when will you realise carbon is a building block of life as in carbon dioxide. If man starts fucking about with nuclear bombs or doesn't stop using nuclear fuel that could cause a extinction level event but that's nothing to do with the climate.

I find it hilarious that now that the weather supports your narrative, suddenly the weather is an indicator of climate change.

But when the opposite is true (say the weatherman predicts a big storm and nothing really happens), suddenly "weather and climate aren't the same thing!"

Earth isn't a closed system, thermodynamically. As long as it keeps spinning, and there's a dark side to radiate heat into space, we will be fine. It's not the end of the world. It's just hurricane season.
