Most assumptions about goths aren't true. We aren't all SJW (I basically grew up on /b/), we aren't all into BDSM or automatically kinky, we aren't disproportionately fucked in the head in any way from what I've seen. Of all the goths I know, it's like a random sampling of the types of people you'd find anywhere else. We just happen to like certain genres of music and dress a certain way. It's even much more apolitical a subculture than punk or some other groups who have some vague united political/social ideologies.

From my experience, scene girls are good. They fall in that goth/emo category but aren't as depressed or weird. The ones I know are the cute little ones with really long hair and parts of it died pinkish-red or bluish-green. They don't listen to all that crazy metal music like goths and don't paint their nails black. And all the ones I know love sex and sucking dick. Just saying, can't speak for everyone in the world but the emos/goths/scenes I know are like I've described.

I personally always found scene girls to be "cleaner" too. Something about taking the time to straighten and dye hair and match gives a cleaner vibe than a person in all black with teased (probably smelly) hair.

For starters you don't have to dress up unless you want to. Siouxsie, SOM, and the paranormal are all good, but try learning shit about the history, like how it came from Punk and Post-Punk music, or how the culture aspect came to be in 1982 with the Batcave, or the changes in the music over time, or David Bowie's input, or OG movies like "Lost Boys," or how Robert Smith's haircut made the news. If you have a base understanding of goth and aren't a spazz then you'll get there easier. Don't be afraid to look into contemporary acts either, a real killer is Drab Majesty that goths and nongoths alike enjoy. Finally, don't make the mistake of conflating us with emos. They're a separate culture with even more different music, and bringing them up off the cuff will make you look ignorant. Funny story, I was at a goth club and some black dude walked up and said I had an excellent jawline that worked well with my teased out hair. Being black is no bar of entry into gothdom, even to make friends. All the same as well with sports and rap. Go to some clubs and events, and get comfortable with yourself. Be honest with people and it's posaible you'll make some friends. It's kinda funny, I see more blacks getting involved in Goth these days compared to hearing about how it was primarily whites and Hispanics a few decades ago. There's even huge goth movement in Kenya underway right now, so you don't have anything to worry about.
