Can't tell if trolling or not. There is nothing character driven about the story at all. The characters aren't "dirty rotten scoundrels" they had one guy shoot a guy in the beginning and the rest of the time they just talk about how they are a rag tag team of no good low lifes. Wheres the part where a character has a defined personality and makes choices stemming from that personality with consequences and change and suspense coming from that? It's not there because they just do the movie straight. Linear. Literally they just get together and say "We gotta do this" "okay" and essentially walk in to the base do a little running and shooting, click the buttons and do the shit, then die. No sense of What they are sacrificing why we should care or why this whole fucking thing mattered at all. That last parts the most important because what makes it even more insulting is the fact that we already know they are going to finish the mission so the only interesting part is the characters on the mission and how it affects them. That part doesn't exist, so neither does a story. I almost fell asleep watching it the first time.

The one where the heros have blue flashlights and the badguys have red flashlights. Or the one where a rebel collective is trying to free itself from a larger administration. Or the one where we don't actually see the bad guys do bad guy stuff nor see the good guys actually be good. Sorry if I'm being too specific. I realize these plots are intricate and unique.

The characters had the depth of tarmac on a wet day compared to a pool. Jin while definently the pretties girl they've ever put on the screen is by far the most dead inside character emotionally to come along since they put a cardboard stormtrooper in the first movie in a new hope.

All the star wars movies struggle with shit character writing but the space battles and locations make up for it. Rogue one did that best of all.

Gosh I agree but I just feel like with the exception of the grievous moment all the other lightsaber battles are boring compared to this one. Breaking down the fight in isolation while completely his prerogative but ignoring the pacing of the movie and the music as well as the built up stakes of the characters emotional ark and the suspense that has been created is the debate equivalent of making an ad hitlerum argument for why the oppositions argument is flawed because it reminds you of hitler.

Star wars lightsaber fights are bad 9.5 times out of 10. There are cool moments but they are generally bad. This one having a flashy coreography that works well with the pacing of the music but not 100% logical isn't bad. Film is art and sometime in a galaxy far far away that's alright.

Lightsaber fights have nothing to do with real swordfights. Lightsabers generate intense gyroscopic force when swung, and can't just change direction like you can with a rapier, or even a broadsword.
