I have a six month wait time. Complete background check for the last 15 yrs of employment, education, and places lived. Then they interview immediate family and 4 of your reference that you must have know for at least 5 yrs. The they go thru your credit history and make sure you have no bills in collections. Currently attending a police academy now (graduate in December), and simply put: YES. The amount of lazy potato fat bodies that weasel their way into the profession is disgusting. We had two girls who couldn't do there mile and a half in fucking LESS THAN 16 minutes, and another could only do 11 push of the 24 required push ups. Have a other guy who's FUCKING 35 and is always claiming injuries on runs to drop out and shit. Physical standards are too low and it's embarassing. Keep in mind im not some super serious police cadet either, im pretty chill and don't get triggered over anti cop shit like 90% of my classmates with their SERVE AND PROTECT HURRRR BROTHERS IN ARMS HURRRR mindset, but if there's one thing that pisses me off it's somebody knowing full well they're entering a program that requires a certain (low) level of fitness and STILL they fucking slack off. I don't know. It seems like they don't have enough physical requirements. A lot of male cops seem to be fat and bald.

Recently a cop was accused of using excessive force *gasp* (Shocking, right?) and the Chief of Police made a statement. I noticed every cop beside him was a fat and bald male, even the black ones. It was almost comical.

Sounds like every fucking military branch at every fucking rank below general/admiral. Yet somehow they don't go around planting evidence or escalating conflicts (they are trained to de-escalate around civilians, and when shit goes wrong or a soldier cheats the system people actually get criminally convicted) or chimp out about "muh brotherhood" every time there's an internal investigation.

the only sentiment I agree with is that it should be a cops job to de-escalate situations, not act as judge jury and excecutioner.

i also think they should be wearing body cams at all times and be held accountable to abuse of power, and shouldn't even have access to lethal weapons in the first place as it's not their job to decide who lives or who dies regardless of threats on their own life. nonlethal weapons have come a long way since the first days of ineffective tazers, and there's absolutely no reason why cops shouldn't be equipped with modern stun guns rather than lethal firearms.
