Hugbox:
Caring for the fluffy, encouraging its more endearing traits and treating it well gives the owning warband a +1 to Leadership Tests for the duration of the battle, should the fluffy get killed.
Offing someone's mascot is frowned upon and makes the owners determined to avenge their fuzzy little friend.

Observation: yes, fluffies are most useful when they die.

I remember the first time I moved the litter box in the safe room of some of my more "special" fluffies. About a third of them used it, another third shit in the corner where it use to be, and the others were crying about tummy hurties because they held it. Interestingly enough, both the ones that went in the corner and the ones that went in the litter box were pretty sure they'd made bad poopies despite their best efforts.

Normal fluffies were smart enough to use the litter box, even if it wasn't quite in the usual place. Of course, normal fluffies were equally likely to also use any box on the floor that vaguely resembled their litter box. I discovered this the hard way when I left the lid of a storage container on the floor while I was looking for something in the closet. It could not have been on the floor for more than 3 minutes while I rooted around in the botom of the closet before I hear a little voice behind me say, "Maekin gud poopies!"

I didn't punish her for that for fear of confusing her.

I think by now most people would have given up and concluded what we already knew: fluffies are simply too stupid to be trained.

Or were they?

I had a major breakthrough when I realized what we were doing wrong.

We were treating them too much like small children.

It is only natural to do so, since they talk and act like children, but they do not learn like children.

So I started with a different approach entirely. I taught them to learn through games. Some games they understood directly, such as a simple memory matching game. Others were more subtle.

"Ok, how?"

Alex was already going over to a block, muttering, "Need bwockies for baww. Bwockies fow baww."

He pushed the block over, climbed up, and knocked the ball down. Giddy with his success, he rolled the ball over while giggling like a madman. After returning it to me, he ran around in circles out of sheer exhilaration, saying "Bwockies fow baww!" until he was winded. I gave him a treat and thought of some new things to try.

I'm an EMT and I sometimes do the medical standby at a nearby racetrack. Whenever a horse falls and breaks its leg, or just has a heart attack and drops dead in the middle of a race (because of all the steroids they constantly pump into them) they have an interesting method of removing the animal. There's a van that after each race drives the owners over to the winner's circle, it drives out and parks in front of the horse to block it from the crowd. They then bring out a trailer that has a winch in it that's hooked up to a loop of cable (think like a metal noose) which they wrap around the horse's neck and then use the winch to drag the animal into the trailer so it can be taken to be euthanized (if its still alive) or just simply disposed of if its already dead.

Its rather horrifying.

You pull your foot off just slightly, keeping it gasping for breath, before unceremoniously shoving the nozzle in the things ass, cranking it to full power and pulling the trigger.
>"POOPEH PWACE HAB WOWSTEST HUWTIES!" It screams out, as you shove the nozzle in before making incoherent noises as it fills with water.
>"TUMMEH HAB HUWTIES! HAB WOWSTEST HUWTIES HOOOOO HOOOO HOO" it starts crying. As it starts expanding it eventually starts chirping before a small "SPOOSH" happens, and water floods your deck as the fluffy abdomen explodes. The (barely alive) smarty chirps for a few seconds before just... stopping. You change the nozzle setting, and start washing the blood and viscera off before going inside and having a beer, now completely relaxed.
