thats a toughie. the same thing usually can't scare you twice, so the concept of something being the 'scariest' is fleeting. honestly its probably some indie film I can't quite recall.

ones that stood out to me a lot though:
>would you rather

basically a less edgy version of saw, stars one of the hot chicks from pitch perfect.

>circle

this ones more suspense then straight horror but i enjoy that. 90% of the movie takes place in one room where a group of people are standing in a circle. they can vote on who dies, and every minute or two one of them has to die.

i agree with him sorry guys. horror movies arent scary anymore. things can just make you jump from a sudden movement and loud noise, but i'm not into that gay shit I want something that will seriously scare me on a psychological standpoint. the supernatural horror films dont seem to have an effect on me cuz its all fake as shit, i prefer something that is totally possible and could happen outside of the film, this is way more thrilling.

'They look like people' is good a psych thriller but I'd give it three stars myself, but there is another one that I don't remember the name but it's about some twins who see their mom differently after she had face surgery and they're all like ' she's not the same', so like they put cockroaches in her mouth and do other things to her to check if she's the same. I'd give it 3 stars also but because I felt like the ending was rushed.

Run and get help
Defend yourself
Lock yourself in a room

But what would you do if one day a demon or ghost really was out to get you? You and me would have literally no idea what to do and that's what scares me the most

How does the Large Hardon Colander disprove anything related to spirits / demons / anything else possibly woo?
>>
Fire in the Sky freaked me out as a kid, but thats mostly because my father swore he would see unexplained lights/flying objects/noises as a kid in Arizona and the year that the events it was based on he saw them nearly every week.

Later it became more sad because I realized my dad spent most of his childhood doing peyote in the desert and stealing explosives out of abandoned mines.

>>744150336
I think judging horror movies by how scared you get is unfair to the movie. Horror movies are not the same as comedies. I just do not think the general horror audience understands that. That was my point with this post and in all seriousness, who the fuck gets scared by horror movies? frightened maybe, nervous, disturbed, sure. But actually feeling the emotion of fear? Who has actually felt that from a movie since they were kid. My point was thinking about horror movies in that way is a mistake. You should not judge a horror movie based on how scared you got watching it.

particle accelerators are so fascinating really. stephen hawking himself once explained how they work and how they push particles that are short lived to the speed of light in a way that if we were to do the same to human it could potentially make time travel a reality. ofc there is no way as of know to do that to a person and have them survive but they would potentially be pushed to the speed of light inside the machine and only a few minutes wouuld go by inside the machine while outside severall years have passed, so the person would be much younger than everyone else who upon exiting.

I'm a bit of a movie buff, horror fan, special effects fan and I have autism so I'm not that good with emotions. Needless to say, I don't really get scared of movies. All I can think about while watching 'scary movies' is stuff like: "the scene is dark, they distract the viewer with something moving on the left and then suddenly pop up something on the right, trying to catch the viewer off guard to scare them." I wish I could just experience normal emotions like normal people, to be honest...

Nah the production values are actually high with this one. I was surprised.
I can't imagine it was made in Iran cause it rips bigtime on the Shiite theocracy and cultural repression. There's a lot of parallels running through the movie between the cultural changes, the growing horror plot, and the protagonist's experience of it all that kinda walks you through the psychology of setting up an occupation.
>>
>>744154932
That was just an example. I love practical effects, so I watch a lot of 80s horror. I do try to watch modern horror too to see if there's something worthwhile. The Void was pretty good, for example. Underlighting the monsters was a smart move because that triggers your fantasy and you can think of way scarier stuff than the special effects team can, most of the time. Guess they learned from watching Carpenter's version of The Thing.

I'm a bit of a gorehound, so I like Hatchet, Guinea Pig, August Underground, stuff like that. 80s slashers are a close favorite.

Dumb fuck. Here:

Arkin drives back to the house at night, and we see that it’s in the middle of nowhere. He puts on a mask and grabs his tool bag. As he sneaks towards the house, he is suddenly attacked by a newly placed dog (which takes a bite out of his mask). Arkin picks the lock to the back door of the house. He enters and everything seems fine. He goes upstairs to the master bathroom and lifts the mirror up, knowing that it covers the safe. He takes off his mask and starts to crack the safe when he hears someone downstairs. The Collector (Juan Fernandez), a killer who wears a black mask, locks the back door and starts to come upstairs. Arkin quickly puts the mirror back, grabs his bag, and hides in the other room while the Collector is on the other side of the wall. The Collector goes into the bathroom, and Arkin sneaks downstairs. He tries to leave but finds that there are several locks on the top of the back door, all of which are now locked. There are also several locks on the front door as well. Arkin decides to find another exit, but looks at the clock. It’s a little before 11PM. For his family’s sake, he decides to stay in the house to get the jewel.

didn't see it while scrolling but anyone see the movie 'the evil within'? not a bad movie, the director was this rich ass meth head who made the movie but ODed before it was complete, i think it sat on the shelves unfinished for a few years until his friend or another producer finished it up. Not a bad horror knowing the story behind the making.

Also that one new mexican director who made 'the incident' and 'the similars' did a great job, not necessarily horror but definitely unsettling; very twilight zone like.

Here's a trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq5Q5J3wLqI

I knew this Iranian playwright, she did the same subversive stuff honestly. The movie really is well put together in production but also symbolism. There's the implication of the scud missile having a payload of evil entities that got put into their home. Most of it is of course up to your imagination, a lot is left to interpretation - did they get away? Did the spirits haunt them? Were the spirits shot at them or already there? Did they in fact all actually die when the scud hit? But you see day to day stuff for the protagonist in the meantime that thematically overlaps. By the time the evil entities have spread she runs outside for help and is instead accosted by militia on "moral patrol" who abuse her. And the artifacts that tie her to her old life when she was a medical student, before the theocrats took over and her husband was sent to join Iran's wave strategy play a circumstantial role in the plot. The political message he's trying to send with this overlap becomes very on the nose though, you'll know what I mean when the spirits become more visible.

I really loved the arc they threw in there with her dealing with her daughter growing up in IRG controlled Iran and how they represented her forced adaptation to the new cultural mores. Well not so much adaptation as.. well kind of. It's more about her not wanting to let go of a past while everybody else is (if reluctantly) moving onto the present, which is the only thing her daughter ever experienced and there's a narrative of the mother losing her in a way. But I've geeked out on this enough, I don't want to spoil more.

They tried to keep it low key in Iran but there's some thuggish brutes roaming around who tend to make short work of it. Nowadays they're scattering it to international film, through the internet back into Iranian households.

This is their idea of the fixed version.
It's the classical inner party - outer party - general public shtick. The inner party is living in immeasurable opulence, the outer party gets its bread and circus in exchange for enforcing the inner party's will.

It's just normally the outer party has for us been a strung along professional class bureaucratically suppressing proles. In their case it's the proles that got suckered in from the rural areas to "rise up against the decadence of westernized liberal urbanites." Whole thing operated on the premise of getting their "dignity" back. Apparently dignity is when you have dudes with AK's beating random women if they don't do a little show and dance on command. So they gave their luddites and regressives an enemy, then gave them literal rifles, and now *they* are the ones on top and getting their grudges settled because instead of being poor uneducated farmboys they're rich with loot from physically knocking over those smarty-pants. So they're cool with the way things are, and while the nerds are great at writing subversive plays they're more inclined to shut up and remain bullet-free than form an insurgency. And I honestly wouldn't know where to begin with that with the total control the Iranian regime has by now.

Mega fucking cringe. He was questioning God's gender, and so I pointed out one bible verse that shows why Christians believe it's a He.

"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love." I don't think God anticipated Adam and Eve eating from that tree, so He punished them.

okay first of all. I'm not an Atheist. you should really take a religions class, I did it was pretty interesting. Atheism is a characteristic that can describe a religion itself that worships no gods, like Buddhism. Atheism is just the opposite of Theism. Stop being so closed minded that you would judge and change your opinion of an entire group of people based on something one person on the internet said, someone you can't even see or hear. Bet you judge entire races based on the actions of one person. Guess what that's called buddy, racism. People like you don't belong on the internet because you can't handle the things people say or do on it. Yet you are on /b/. You realize your arguments and actions literally make no sense. Good day bigot.

Can't we stop discussing religion & get back to the topic of this thread? There are important particle accelerators that need to be discussed.

Just to be clear we're talking about the tree with delicious looking human-ruining fruit that God planted next to the humans right?

No. I've known a bunch of people, couple families and that playwright. They were from the affluent, urban class and moved around the time that cultural revolution took place for obvious reasons. Because they could afford to do it leisurely they're called expats instead of refugees, but tbh when you consider the situation they were really.

Nowadays Iran is pretty transparent about this. There's some textbook keeping up appearances but they're very direct honestly, the brutishness is considered a norm by authorities, and you can tell its set in because the citizens expect it from their authorities now. I haven't gone into Iran but I've professionally had to do with the surrounding areas, there's a pretty solid consensus on it. They've got that oil-fed, well put together, honestly modern veneer going, but the cultural repression is normalized as a self-imposed thing and it puts a really dark vibe on the whole place. Kind of feels like a hostage situation I imagine.

You realize the Bible was transcribed many many times? Throughout those many transcriptions do you realize how much information was lost and altered? YES ALTERED. Before it was ever transcribed it was just word of mouth from person to person. Over centuries, that's a lot of changes.

So remember the "telephone" game from elementary school? Where the first person would whisper something to the person next to them and then so on to everyone in the room and by the time it was passed on to the last person it was something completely different?

There were many trees with fruit, God said not to eat from one particular tree.

I never said I was a believer in the bible, some of the things in the bible make sense while the majority does not. You'd have to be a moron to think the world is only 4000 years old.

Sheeyat. Good they could get out while it was possible. I've heard a little about the morality police & the zero tolerance on booze (unless you're in with the right crowds), but not specifically in Iran. I have relatives who just finished working in Saudi & that sounded absolutely unlivable by Western standards.

yeah it's been proven wrong. which to be fair to the religious folk I could argue that of all those alterations the 4000 years number could have been altered and is now wrong. But still this is a prime example of how a lot of religious people are super closed minded and need to think for themselves. That said, obviously you can believe in God and think the Bible is garbage. Or believe in God and still accept evolution for that matter. My point is that there are still so many Christians that take the Bible for literal factual information. Maybe because the leaders of their churches keep leading them to believe so.
