that's the irony of it, if you work a min wage job, like I do for example. I work at a local pet shop and make 7.25 a hour, now am I saying my job requires a college degree and high skill level? No, but I deserve more than min wage, I have to lift heavy bags of cat and dog food (9/10 alone) while walking up a ladder, greet people, assist them in finding the right food for their animal (that right there is more than min wage work). But I still make 7.25 a hour working 36.5 hours a week. It's not very much, at most I make just under 400 bi-weekly, which is barely enough to afford a apartment in the hood. I'm not saying by any means I deserve 15.00 a hour for what I do, but at least 8-9 a hour would be nice...min wage for min work I suppose

these days really doesn't matter what you make an hour because they have found ways to fuck over anyone making an honest living, unless you fuck other people over you will not make money to the point you don't need to worry about it. War is big business now a days and i hear at least 4-5 people a week talk about joining the military. Seems it is the only way to make fast cash while learning a trade. I just turned 30 in july and i work for a auto body shop. I only make 13 somthing an hour for hard work and pressuring deadlines, i have been thinking of doing something else but i gave up on joining the military meme, i can't put myself in a blue pilled mindset to be constantly told what to do and yelled at to go kill some people for israel, even though you can get a nice check just for completing training i don't see it worth singing my life away. Your better off saving some money and trying to start a small business.

Take your dads advice. The navy will pay you way better (especially once you nail a couple promotions, if you can make Sgt, youre set), and they'll pay for your meals and housing. You'll build up character by PT and military discipline which will be an investment in yourself, and there is a sort of fraternity of military dudes, so you'll get a leg up on getting hired after work, especially if the boss was in the armed forces, because of that. You'll also qualify for the GI bill when youre done, so youll get free money to go to school if you want to after. Honestly, there's no reason not to, if you qualify.

Also, your dad will respect you a lot more and be a lot happier with and proud of you because you did it.

Don't be a chaplain though, get a real job in the navy that will teach you skills you can apply afterwards in life (kind of like how AF/N pilots get commercial airliner jobs afterwards and make bank).

The Navy can do a lot for your life but it's not free. Like everything you get the returns of what you put in. If you DGAF and just do the minimum required most places are happy to let you clean the bathrooms and never get promoted. If you get in trouble things generally get dramatically worse quickly. If you do give a shit and try it's a pretty good life. You get paid to work out and pretty much all bills except cell phone are covered for you.

When you first get in you'll be making less than you make now and generally be required to live on the ship or the barracks until you get promoted.

You can't just "be a chaplain". They are generally cushy jobs given to actual clergy from actual churches. No, you cannot make up your own church or religion and be a chaplain of/for that. You can enlist as someone whos basically a secretary for the chaplain but even those jobs are fairly few and far between because they don't do much and is pretty hard to get promoted while not doing anything.

For the record I'm the physicist that posted above. My grad student stipend is minimum-wage tier given how many hours I put in, but the jobs out there after I finish are v cushy.

I still think that people doing unskilled labor deserve to make more than $7.25/hr. They shouldn't have to worry about unexpected health/financial/weather disasters. They're still human. They deserve to eat. They deserve a home. They deserve medical care. Do they deserve an Escalade or a mansion and shit? No. But there IS an absolute baseline of safety and security ("life liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and all that) that we deserve as humans.
