always bought makita brand, but the battery has some digital bit that it flips that prevents the battery from charging at all

i get it for safety, but fuck. the guy i work with has the impact only version and hes had the same batteries from day one
>>
Your answer depends on what tool you are actually looking for.

A rotary hammer is going to be a very different answer to a drill. A 26" compound miter saw is going to be a very different answer to a right angle drill. The only people who get laughed at are the guys who show up with Ryobi, and brandfags who have everything 1 brand, including bags and their radio
>>
I'm A pipe fitter, and bosch angle-grinders arent half bad, their straight grinders are shit though.

Personally own this combo driver + impact since the 24v max release and have not been dissatisfied.

>>742922473
you need brand loyalty because none of the brands batteries are interchangeable so it's a waste of money to have multiple brands. that said a lot of the brands are owned by the same company. i think black and decker and dewalt are the same shit and milwaukee is the same as ryobi i think.

but there's still levels of quality if you're actually using it for construction. if you're just a weekend warrior dad, then it doesn't matter you're not going to break it unless you're incompetent.

Seeing as this thread is occupied by people with the right kind of intellect, i have a question i need you to answer:
What type of consumer battery can i buy which would be within a budget of 1oo dollars and which would have a voltage of 3V or higher?
I wan't to make a railgun and develop a prototype sniper rifle, can't do that if i dont have the charge.

Also, what type of capacitors would you recommend, im looking for one with love capacitance and massive charge, since i will need to release all that power in an instant.

Also: I need this to be lee enfield sized or close, for convenience. Therefore i will need small batteries (like those pill shaped ones) or whatever type of battery so long as it takes up the least space for the most voltage. Same principle for capacitors.

Those caps will hold a charge for a day or so, more then enough time to get a shot off.
Outside of that you'd need either some sort of induction set-up or you'd need to know how to rework a civilian dynamotor into a rotary pulse generator to hold the kind joules needed to throw a projectile at any respectable velocity, both of which are massive and expensive.

And aside from that there's the issue of switching, you're going to need a reinforced silicon cube rectifier minimum to keep your trigger assembly from blowing apart on you. I learned this the hard way when i was trying to make a railgun using a bank of Maxwell caps pushing around 50,000 joules.
Energy storage is going to be secondary to finding a power switch capable of handling a pulse more then a few dozen joules.

I have no clue on batteries though, i was working on a table top version that was never meant for moving around.

>>
>>742926037
thats the thing, i think i over-torqued some stuff with it and that killed the batteries
>>
>>742926523
I actually have quite a few of those, dirt cheap. They're good for the price and I don't give a shit if I get garbage all over them and fuck em up. Glue? Epoxy? I dont' give a fuck if it gets in those clamps. They're not the best, and I've broken a few on some projects and they aren't that strong. They bend sometimes but they DO NOT break so that's a good point for them. But really it's just so I don't care if maybe I even pour aluminum on them by accident. For the price they're amazing.
>>
>>742926857
If i need to do glue ups im using several clamps across a large surface... im not paying 18-25+ dollars on irwin name brand when i need at least a dozen, $4 harbor freight made doing my glue ups far less painful
>>
>>742926396
Why would i need a rectifier if all the charge is stored in DC?
I plan on having the capacitor bank in series to store up a larger charge, but i wander if storing in parallel would allow for a greater current and thus a higher projectile velocity?

SCR's are just the official name for large transistors. There's many different forms of rectifiers, some for turning AC into DC, and some used for switching on and off massive power loads. Thyristor's is what you'll be looking for. Preferably one that's atleast 30% more then your max energy pulse, atleast 50% if you want to use it more then a handful of times.

Currently on the lookout for a good 18v combo drill/impact driver set (training in electrical).

Right now I'm low on funds and stuck with one of those $20 Harbor Freight drills. Pretty sure I blew out my shoulders trying to drill holes with that damned battery powered screw driver.

Back when I was on an assembly line, used to use Milwaukee M12 brushless. Idiots used to crank up the speed and torque on those things and strip so many screws, little things are powerful for the size.

Another union electrician here. Milwaukee for small stuff like drills and saws, Hilti for big shit like hammer drills.

Made in USA nowadays only needs to be final assembly, this can be as shady even as placing the tool in the packaging.

Second note to this, proper design and engineering account for slop work of sweat shop workers. Brand still matters in this regard.

was never a fan of Makita, but i'm Bias as i've only had the pleasure of working with the white/gray (whatever fucking color) set and it was far below my expectations in quality and build. However the milwaukee fuel, dewalt 18v, and Kobalt 24v (impact) have had me pretty impressed as far as ruggedness weight and torque.

Home Depotfag here, dewalts are always trying to be returned on a daily basis, Milwaukee and Makita rarely so. Either way though your warranty is with the manufacturer unless you give us your jewbucks for a replacement plan, so please stop trying. We wont give a fuck unless your a contractor spending in our store every day.
