Music was utterly shitty. Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Pat fucking Benatar, shitty hair metal, shitty synth pop bands. It was awful.

But then 15 year old Annabella Lwin posed naked on the cover of a single and I had something to beat off to again.

Other than that, I can't remember much of the 80s, I was way too drugfucked for most of it.

Could go to the mall with a couple of singles and quarters and feel like a millionaire.

Also if you didn't see your friend on the weekend you had to wait til Monday to find out what they did.

Porn was nearly impossible to find and if you had a video cassette or mag you treated it like it was made out of gold.

All up it was a comfy time. You found out about news stories maybe a day after they happened. You could get a job without any skills. You could be 'poor' but own a house.
People who didn't have an 80s childhood missed out IMO.

Media consumption, generally, was a more-deliberate act. If you got a cable subscription and had multiple packages/companies to choose from, you actually considered them. If you wanted to watch a movie, there was the whole ritual of calling the store and seeing what they've got (or checking the newspaper to see what's out), going to the store, picking up the movie, etc etc. If you wanted an album, you wanted specifically that album because it was a more-significant time and money investment to acquire music.

>>
Huh. What was it like? Well, it started with Mt. St. Helens, and ended with the Berlin Wall coming down. Reagan had the balls to inspire the Soviet Union to break up (alas, we did nothing to help, so gangsters took over). MTV. Personal computers were becoming popular, and graphics was in its infancy. Expensive videos were made with little more than wire-frame renderings, and it was *cool*. People started using modems to connect to bulletin boards systems to exchange ideas and titty pictures. Music became bubblegum - there was no war of consequence, so music became happy. VCRs allowed you to record your shows, rent movies, and theaters that couldn't offer more than just a dingy screen lost customers.
We had the world by the balls, and we abused that influence.

>>
I was a kid. My parents both had jobs and we were barely middle class. Little did I know I'd never be as wealthy as them when I was an adult.

It was a bitch of a time to not be rich because dressing in expensive Izod/Polo etc clothes was the in style.

Also, not many had divorced parents in my high school, forget about single parent never married. That was for white trash and a real shame on them.

Also, gay was not OK. We called each other faggots all the time in school, and I was shocked when a teacher said that wasn't nice. There were literally zero gays in school, and the few that were dropped out.
>>
>>742440255
today if your kids where caught fighting they would be given estrogen by school nurse to lower their "aggressiveness"

I would say the most striking difference between the 80s and today is how shitty the neighborhood I lived in has become.

People were skinnier and less ideological. Driving was much easier, people drove better and cars were comfier. People were less uptight about security, ticks, mosquitoes, smoking. Adults largely stayed out of kid's lives.

>>They just didn’t flame on until after high school, but we knew.
flame on kek
that's true. yeah most of the people I suspected of being gay kept it in the closet until after high school.

It wasn't uncommon for a gay son to be disowned and kicked out of the house. happened to a guy that was in my church youth group and his dad was a school principle. No way you could get away with that today.
>>
>>742441014

Anthony Reid. A mopey saddboi whose parents probably should have bought a dozen things before buying cable.

I guess a saddboi mooching-bud is better than an irritating or aggressive mooching-bud.

Oh, and speaking more-broadly: I was born in to what would these-days constitute _immense wealth_. That is, my parents owned their house and two vehicles before I was born, the house sat on a half-acre property with climbing trees and shit, and I would later learn that our household had never once been in debt or arrears. This was with my father's income as a full-time mechanic, and my mother's income as a part-time nurse (though she quit when I was born), and fewer than three years' savings for down payments.
>>
>>742436285
When I was a kid, VCRs were God damn expensive, so we would go to the mom and pop video store (this is before Blockbuster) and rent the unit, and a few movies for the weekend.

If you were underage then porn was as hard to get as beer. Hardcore porn double so. If you had a porn video tape you guarded that shit like a gold brick.

No cell phone. Fuck, some people didnt even use cordless phones yet. Oh, and there was this thing called a "long distance" phone call. You had to wait until after 9pm to make the call or pay a fuck ton on the phone bill.

If you used a computer outside of work for anything other than the word processor then you were a nerd.

You actaully walked to the bus stop and waited there in the rain, snow, dark, whatever for the bus. None of this mom drives me to bus stop and i sit in car waiting for the bus.

People like Boy George wouldn't actually say they were gay. They just dressed like that because they were "performers". People actually thought a band called Queen wasn't gay.

SJWs didnt exist.

A high school student could buy a seventies muscle car with summer jobs money. Wish i wouldve kept mine, wouldve been down payment on a house now.

It was pretty awesome actually. Malls were awesome I remember that much. I remember in the 90's when malls got lame and i was like shit malls suck now.

Fast Times at ridgemont high has accurate mall awesomeness.

Video games were all exciting, and it wasn't all lame like it is now.

It was cool to be rad, things were more neon, less LED.
>>
>>742441086
>>742441320

I was a bit of a degenerate and wouldn't even record the whole video, just a few seconds to either side of the clips that I wanted.

"Watching," MTV (wrestling, sometimes could also produce surprising smut once in a while), calm, patient, and motionless, waiting for that song or commercial with an itchy finger on the Record button...

Now I can download porn videos at over forty times the playback rate. And there's still no cure for AIDS. lul
