I've been putting some serious thought towards designing a stay-alive card game based on fluffies. You'd pick a fluffy type with certain HP and perks and the cards would have actions that hurt or heal your or someone else's fluffy. Last one to get foweba sweepies wins.

Would you play this? More importantly to me, would you buy this?

My name is Jared and, after a kerfuffle with the law, I found myself doing community service time at my city's animal shelter. Being an unpaid "everyone's bitch", I typically got the jobs nobody else wants such as cleaning up after the dogs and cats. Lately, with the disappearance of one of the volunteers, I've been taking care of the whole fluffy wing by myself. With over a hundred of the little fur balls under our care at any given time, the job can be quite demanding but also quite rewarding when one of our wards is selected for adoption.

Everything was going well until last Tuesday when the shelter's director dropped a bomb on us; or rather, on me specifically. Thanks to a certain city council member embezzling money from the city's operations fund, our budget was getting drastically slashed. What this meant was that any new arrivals would be euthanized after a shorter period and also that we'd have to cull the majority of our current inventory. Oh, and to make matters worse, they were going to make ~me~ do the dirty deed since veterinary services cost money.

As someone who leans toward the hugbox spectrum of fluffies, I certainly wasn't looking forward to what lay ahead.

To do the deed, the city furnished me with what amounted to an old chest style freezer with a welding bottle of nitrogen gas attached to it. Put fluffies in, close lid, turn on gas, wait a minute or two, turn off gas. wait five minutes, open lid and remove suffocated fluffies. I was told that, unlike regular animals, these would be going straight to the landfill so I could dispose of the bodies in the dumpster.

I started with the abused fluffs who had visible scars or other bodily damage, the ones with missing fluff, the pillows and the other amputees. These fluffies typically had a low rate of adoption anyway and I figured that the pillow fluffs must be suffering in their condition. As long as I thought of myself as an angel of mercy, it was easier to turn on the valve.

The next group were the stallions. I decided to keep two stallions named Beast and Gambit since they were both well tempered Earthies from the same home and were both already fixed. The rest of the stallions? Pssssshhhhh. Done.

By far, the hardest group were the mares. The single mares were no problem but choosing between the mares who still had young litters with them made the task a lot harder. There were things like colors and sub species to consider not only for the mare herself but also those of her brood. I had to choose who was more likely to be adopted and who wouldn't be. I'll admit that I broke into tears as I gently lifted the lifeless bodies of the first foals out of my gas chamber. I had to suck it up though. The city no longer had the money to feed them and this was better than letting them starve.

In the end, I'd managed to reduce my "herd" from 100 members down to only ten. Even then, their remaining days were still cut in half.

Every time I passed Waif's enclosure, he just looked more and more pathetic. He'd whine and whimper about his owner. He'd whine and whimper about his leg. He'd whine and whimper about his previously happy life. I wanted to be cold. I wanted to tell him that all of that shit was gone and never coming back. I wanted to tell him that in only two more sleepy times, he'd have a date with a Frigidaire and some gas.

Instead, I did something I shouldn't have done under any circumstance. I took Waif out of his little space and carried him to the shelter's introduction room. I held him on my chest with his head on my shoulder, comforting him by stroking his back while he sobbed about his problems until he finally fell asleep. I played the part of the loving owner he'd lost. I was careful not to wake him as I carried him back and laid him on the enclosure's hard floor. My mind briefly flashed to the little guy snoozing on my couch. I quickly shook away the notion.

"No." I replied. "No, that'll be fine." With that, I slowly walked back to my section.

Sure, fluffies have poor mental capabilities, but they do seem to mature enough to the point of a real adult, I think of a retarded adult, or a down syndrome adult: conscious enough of their surroundings, responsibilities up to a certain point, conscious of their own hormonal changes, conscious about them growing, but still not capable enough of some certain things and lack of a good intellectual/literscy level.

In my case I've noticed in every canon that foals do tend to behave in an even more childish way than their adult counterparts. They are all naïve, but foals are even more. i think the only real thing that separates mine from most head canons is the variant smarty friend which I've seen a few other times but not often, as well as the nursery mares which i haven't seen used in any other story though i wouldn't be surprised if someone already thought of it. also i have an specific explanation as to what causes most smarty behavior as well as poopy babies.

basically smarties are fluffies that have an inflated ego caused by their mother calling them the best baby, mares decide who is best based on color from most similar to hers then most bright and if they have either wing or a horn. alicorns (fluffies with wings and a horn) are automatically viewed as monsters and are either left to starve or outright killed when they are born. so this foal grows up to believe they are the best and deserve everything making them domineering assholes, however most of them can be rehabilitated to stop being a smarty if they become on through conditioning. if the smarty is born with "smarty syndrome" they mostly can't be rehabilitated or trained out of this behavior, the best you can do is train them to be tolerable, it should be noted that conditioned smarties are rather uncommon if the fluffies are raised in a domestic setting.

as for poopy baby abuse this are primarily a feral behavior, what happens is a mare will give birth to a litter and by default she will love them all (except alicorns). but when she's about to starve and can't produce milk she will cannibalize the least pretty foal to sacrifice, the reason for this is to keep her foals alive while also keeping the herd as pretty as possible in ordsr to increase the chance of adoption. so when the best baby sees this activity and combined with being a smarty they are conditioned with the association that dark colors are bad, this then through generations turns into poopy babies eating the herds poop instead of milk and enfie babies.

training, though only specific kinds of breeders bother to train fluffies to weed out the trues smarties from the mislead. basically if you get a feral smarty and he slowly learns to do normal fluffy stuff like sharing toys, playing with darker fluffies and is easily litter trained.

btw the best way to train a fluffy to use the litter box is to use a sorry box, this is a box that isolates them from other fluffies in a dark cramped inclosure. fluffies are terrified of the dark, isolation and unkown/loud noises, however you want to be careful since long periods of isolation can kill foals especially foals who are still on milk. it's widely accepted that young foals can die from isolation before thirst starvation or exposure, and in my head canon this risk persists until they are sexually mature at which point extreme isolation only causes psychological trauma such as depression or even ptsd.
