>Drivers make a shit ton of money
Yeah, but it's basically impossible to become a driver. I think the only official "in" UPS has for becoming a driver is to apply for holiday driver helper, and even then it's like a 99% chance you won't be kept on after the holidays. There's a myth that sorting facility workers can work their way up to becoming drivers but I've only ever met one UPS driver who actually did that, and he was in the sort facility for 9 fucking years.
Seems like a great job. Impossible to get though. I'm still at a loss as to where all their drivers actually do come from...
>>
>>742231434
It's a cush job though. My friend is a fleet mechanic at UPS working on the gasoline versions of their trucks, making around 33$/hr.

And are you a dumbfuck who worked hard to get a career in an industry that is regionally centralized? Like in, oh, silicon valley? Guess what, it was the dumbest fucking thing the IT industry did. They don't own the land, the utilities, the local stores, the HOUSING...but all the people who DO know exactly how much more you people are making and so, yeah, a house that normally costs $80k anywhere else is suddenly three fucking times as much.

Ahaha, no they aren't. There is one fully automated building here in Minnesota and it's a complete shit storm during peak season (Thanksgiving til Christmas). It moves at exactly 1 speed so drivers don't leave the building until 10am sometimes. More boxes = more time to process/sort. Literally standing around for an hour waiting. All while the rest of the buildings you can put more bodies into the workload and push more volume through at any given time.

I had zero experience no related education but I had a decent work background that showed I wasn't a retard.

I applied for the absolute shit tier level sample catcher position for deep water offshore rigs. Made like 50k my first year just bagging rocks. Learned everything I absolutely could and ended up becoming a mud logger which is a guy who looks at rocks but more importantly offshore we monitor pretty much all of the data pertaining to the well to try to keep it from blowing up. I then moved up to a Data Engineer which means I had a couple of mud loggers underneath me.

Being a mud logger is typically sort of a laughed at position, especially on land, but in the offshore world it is a completely different ball game as they are now basically the data nerve center for the entire rig. As a result the lowly ass mud loggers end up learning about damn near every aspect of the drilling process and have more experience watching the well than pretty much anyone.

Well now there are positions on land where the big oil companies need guys to sit in their offices and watch high risk wells from all around the world and the best guys for that are former deep water mud loggers (deep water is as extreme as it gets so if you know how to monitor one of those wells you can monitor anything).

As a result they pay a fuck ton since you end up having a very rare skill set.

So yeah went from 50k bagging rocks to a little under 200k, getting half the month off, in only 6 years.

It is absolutely nuts and every day feels like a dream. That said those first years were fucking shit and I worked my god damn ass off.

My wife loves her job. I gave up my house and shit to come with her, and she's always felt bad (or happy that I'd do it) and now insists I don't have to work.

She also wants someone home with the kids (when we have them) and I'm assuming she doesn't wanna stop working.

But I wanna work. I want money. So things are getting switch

$30k/year vs $100k/year makes no difference. Both are middle class, maybe the 100k guy can afford extra guac on his Subway sandwich. Seriously though the 100k guy maybe has a house in a nicer neighborhood, a nicer car, and a nice watch. Both are working 40 hours per week. At the end of the day not much differences.

Studies shown that beyond $70k/year makes no difference to a persons happiness.

Not OP, but lawyer making 100k a year now. It's worth it if you want to be a lawyer and can get scholarships or otherwise significantly reduce debt. If you're going in debt, it's worth it if you really want to be a lawyer. Get a job at a firm as an assistant, filling, or running to get a real idea of what it's like. The first couple years were very hard with very low pay. It sucked and I was stressed and depressed. It worked out for me. Others I graduated with are still making much less with high debt. Good luck!
