Alright this is kind of a weird one. There's one specific image I want immortalized though.

>Knocks it off the counter, the foal falls with it, and the can lands on the foal. Shitty can, so the pop tops off covering the crushed foal in spaghetti.
>The mare immediately rushes over there, not noticing the foal that was crushed and devours the sketty ... and foal.

The image I want is either A) Just after the foal fell to the floor and the can exploded, covering it in sketty, and the mare running towards it yelling about 'bessest daddeh fo sketty nummies!' or B) Just after the mare realizes that one of her babies was in the sketty she just devoured and is crying for 'daddeh bwing back spowin babeh pwease! mummah no wan num babbeh..."

Well.. You're not wrong hahaha. I forget the amount of work to convert brain pictures to real pictures is non-trivial, since I fucking suck at it. I was thinking (I'm not the OP who requested it btw) that you just show the frame where the mares hooves have burnt through, so you can see the melted hoofprints behind them, maybe a baby bursting into flame as it falls off the mare because she jumped and screamed.

You're still hoping to study how long it takes for a fluffy injury to heal. Dr Mengel up in here! up in here!), and shit sprays out into the litter box for several seconds before stopping. The stallion looks very scared at this point.
>You glare at it angrily for several seconds. It looks back at you. You continue glaring. It swings gently in your hand, back and forth, back and forth, as it feels another wave of terror go through it. The mares have gathered up their babies by this point and gathered back into a pile. You make a mental note to give them sketti for dinner to make up for the rude good morning.

One of the mares is over there almost instantly and punches the smarty in the face, and then punishes the foal for hurting the smarty. It's quite cute, actually, since the only one in any real danger is the smarty. He's actually been very well behaved outside this incident. The smarty has started crying at some point during the video. "Stupid babbeh. Huwt taiw and gib huwties, now fwuffy getting punished for twying to pwotect taiw fwom mowe huwties!" You sigh, knowing this is an act. The video continues playing, and it jumps to a scene a few minutes later. The smarty jumps off the pillow and tries to kick the foal in the face, failing miserably because of the tail splint.

You take the opportunity to adjust the tail splint, shoving the screwdriver back up the fluffies ass as it screams about "wowstest huwties in poopeh pwace".

You tie the fishing line to a chain hanging from the roof and let it swing back and forth as you inflate a kiddy swimming pool so when it drops it won't die horribly from the fall.
>You position the pool below the smarty and leave. You head upstairs into the safe room, stopping by the kitchen for a can of "Fluff-Sketti, serve straight from the can!" to give your mares for breakfast. As you step into the room the mares give you a bit of a stinkeye for waking up the foals this morning but quickly warm back up to you after feeding them. You let them know their roommate will be gone for a bit, he needed some time alone in the sorry box.

>You tease the smarty for a minute as the mares celebrate, holding the sketti right up to its nose before setting both bowls on the ground in front of the mares. They dig right in and sing happily between mouthfuls as the smarty vibrates the box angrily. You shake the box back and forth a few times and laugh as the smarty huffs at you as much as it can. You know it shall have many great adventures.

>Two days pass. You keep the smarty up on the shelf as much as possible, and feed the mares and babies skettis every day. They're always thank you very respectfully, even calling you "BESTEST DADDEH EVEW IN DA HOWE WIDE WOWWD(world)!. You eventually grab the smarty box and take him downstairs. You turn the box upside down and unceremoniously dump him and his blanket onto the ground. You move the box so a bunch of shit plops down on its face and let out a small laugh.

You roughly shove the smarties legs into perfectly placed restraints, and tighten them as tightly as they'll go, cutting circulation off to the feet.

>"Taiw hab huwties!" It cries softly as you roughly shove the broken point of the screw driver through the leather. You cut a few holes in the wood to wrap leather to it, and bind the tail into the makeshift splint.
>After the tail is secure, you slap the thing a few times to get its attention. "Wut hoomin want?" it spits at you. "Look. I want to try something. You're tail is broken. I've put it in a splint, I'm curious how long it takes to heal."

>You grab it's other hind leg and squeeze. The smarty screams and screams as you start twisting slowly. You let go before any permanent damage is done and head upstairs leaving it tied up there. You grab yourself a nice, refreshing lemonade and give the smarty a few hours to recover from it's first encounter. You return and it starts screaming before you're even near it. You laugh heartily.

>You're heart melts at the display as the foal struggles to tell everyone it loves them and give them more a hug. You tell the mares you'll have to celebrate tomorrow. They immediately perk up as you talk about letting them go outside for the afternoon.

It's how I broke a smarty in a story once, I hung it from chains (chains were attached to the roof) by using a punch to break a hole in the boney part of the wing and feeding the chain though the hole and leaving it to swing back and forth until it tore the wings off. It had to eat the wings to live before I went back and retrieved it from the tortu... punishment room.

The short n long of it is that it's a way to vent frustration.
They're cute, which contrasts nicely with the viscera. In universe, they're a nuisance and generally act very selfishly, so it adds an extra layer of emotional detachment. The stupidity means that they can fall victim to increasingly complex situations, thus adding variety, which is why its stuck around for so long, especially well after My Little Pony fell out of favor.

Furthermore, the sentience is kind of what separates it from straight animal abuse. An animal can't differentiate "right and wrong," and therefore are incapable of being "evil" the same way that humanity can. The fake cartoon horses having sentience very similar to ours makes their demise cathartic, in a small way.
