Finally a thread I can speak intelligently one :) Ive never seen a Euro pallet before, nor the 3-base type. I can just imagine how easy those are to snap. I only sell 2way reversibles and 4way perimeter base style, and I still hear customers complain they snap.

You are missing drum/barrel pallets BTW. Pic related

Is someone seriously wanting to discuss this topic?
>>
I've found the two-way without wings to be the most economical choice even if you sacrifice some versatility. They are usually sturdier too.

>>741761836
You can get money stealing any pallet. Ive had some of my stamped pallets show up at a local recycler and the guy was upstanding enough to call me and ask if they were junk... 400 of them had been stolen 2 days before. He was even nice enough to deliver them back to me
>>
>>741761836
This
we all know these are superior to anything. as it costs money to just to rent em = quality.
/thread
>>
>>741761966

>>
>>741761854
Fun fact. You can recycle a wood pallet for anywhere between 1-3 dollars each. A recycled pallet in good condition that can be resold is called a #1
>>
>>741761973
not as much, and the quality is inferior to eu pallet anyway. you can get up to 2,5 dollars each.
>>
>>741762046
Except for the fact that they fall apart after very little use
>>
>>741762109
lol? when did that happened? I live in northern scandinavia, and 90% o the truck transport wont use anything else, cause everything else breaks like bitches.
take care of your eu pallet and you can get more than the guy who said u could get 2,5eur or whatever.

Wing types are just trash in general they snap really easy and if they don't snap you sacrifice load size.

Another fun fact. Brazil will not allow any wood pallets into their country from the US. You must use an engineered pallet for export. Why you ask?

The US has Asian Longhorn Beetles as well as Ash Bore Beetles. Brazil does not, and wants to keep it that way.

>>741762109
one more thing. the eu pallets have like atleast 4 year life span.
>>
>>741762158
Work in a warehouse. Everytime something comes on a euro pallet its falling apart. Theyre good for moving things around with jacks because you cants accidentally split them apart, but euro pallets just dont survive long shipments in my experience.
>>
Euro pallets all depend on the wood. I've seen them snap under 250kg, but the sturdy chep euros take over a tonne with ease
>>
>>741761573
Used to work in a pallet factory in Northwest BC and the pallets we made aren't represented here. However, I can say they weren't of a superior design.
>>

I am having some serious problems believing you get 2.50 a pallet at a recycler as I sell #1 pallets all day, including my profit margin, for less than 2.50 each. Either you guys are paying a fuckload of money for pallets or the currency conversion between the US and other countries is throwing things off.

As somebody who uses a lot of pallets daily, two way entry is superior. They are just the most structurally sound, great for large loads. I hate flimsy pallets. Closed boards for dry shop conditions, open board for outdoor applications or wet work.

This is actually true.

I worked for a company shipping about thirty pallets of product to Brazil, and they never cleared customs. Everyone just kinda facepalmed and went about their business.

TheMoreYouKnow.jpg
>>
I really don't like 4 way entry, I understand the application, they make it easy to manipulate the load and all, but the blocks are prone to splitting, they don't have a lot of grain to absorb stress. 2-way is just stronger.
>>

Same here faggot. I had no idea pallets were so involved. This reminds me of "floor guy" who started a huge discussion about waxing floors.

Apparently the only thing that can get the Brazilian government to actually do anything is if their Rainforests are threatened by anything other than robber barons with bull dozers.

Even the US didnt go as far (possibly why we actually got the Longhorn to begin with though) as we will still import a wood pallet from Asia, the pallets just have to be heat treated and or fumigated.

4way pallets are retarded for most applications unless your warehouse is a mess. If things work the way they should, a pallet isnt ever going to "turn" where the second entry point would be needed. You also arent supposed to ship anything over 1,500 pounds on a 4way. Anything over 3,000 pounds and its supposed to have a doubled up center stringer
>>
Everyone not saying euro pallets are better are low class manual fork lift users.

>>741761573
As someone who worked in different storages (forwarding company, vegetable trader, carparts trader) for about 8 years I can tell the europallet is without a doubt the best of the above. It's durable, easy to pick up(some of the others have wooden parts in strange places where you wouldnt expect them since you cant even look through the top, which leads to breaking these pallets more often. Also many od these pallets are just made by stupid people and dont fit into a trailer effectively, like an europallet would (3 in a row).

>>
>>741763037
Of course you dont pay to receive a pallet (well you do, its just calculated into the product/shipping cost like Stretch Wrap and Poly Strapping) I sell pallets to the shippers and I actually have an order right now for 2000 #1 2way pallets. I am selling them for $1.98 each, 50 dollar delivery fee, and that includes my 50% margin. I pay a little under a dollar from my recycler for a #1 pallet which means he is probably paying 30-50 cents each from the Mexicans who steal them. Its amazing to me that companies not only save pallets (they are pretty much 1 time use and disposable) but that recyclers in Canada are paying 5x+ the price for a "junk" pallet. Im just having problems wrapping my head around that.

I mean that would put the price of a used pallet at somewhere north of $6each for resale

>>
>>741763320
They are not recycled. Once they brake they are usually done. In europe it's a deposite-system( dont know if translation is good). Companies will have lists with how many pallets they got from other companies and every other month they either pay the difference or send a trailer full of pallets back. It's not like a cardboard box, since a new europallet is worth about 20euro (so if you have 18 pallet on the trailer it's 360euro. Distances in europe are short and roads are good, so it's not unusual to have very cheap transport. You can imagine how cool it would be to get 500 for the transport but pay 360 for the pallets. There are even gangs from balkancountries who are specialized in stealing europallets.

I used to work in a warehouse and I know earopallets fall apart after a while. Not because they are inferior, but because they are being reused improperly. Idiots in a warehouse put the cart in wrong then pump it up, splitting the pallet. Single use pallets don't have to suffer multiple abuses.

4 way enable a truck to be loaded more efficiently by "pinwheeling" pallets (rotating various ones) to maximize the space in a trailer. Another consideration is weight. Trucks in the US are limited to 80k lbs on the interstates without permits. Less pallet weight = more product shipped.

True, but europals are still much less likely to break than any other pal in my experience. If you pick them up on the short side there is nothing you can split, that might actually contribute. They mostly break if you pick em up sideways and the rolls of your palletjack or whatever are on one of the wooden boards that touch the ground while you are pumping up. If there were less idiots in storagejobs they'd hold much longer. I've never seen one breaking from weight or breaking while properly used.

Thanks friendly Chep merchant, you truly are my greatest ally.
>>
>>741765350
This is really the only drawnack to the chets. Difficult to move by hand, but they are meant to be used in heavy duty applications where generally you have access to a full sized hi-up. I would never try to stack those motherfuckers by hand, that's a workplace injury waiting to happen.
>>
>>741765203
What's worse is trying to explain what's considered "sideways". "Well scooter....this side 4ft. wide, the other is 3ft...."
>>
>>741765240
>>741765101
These?
>>
>>741764677
Until someone puts a jack all the way in it sideways.
>>
>>741765607
walmart gets most of its freight on chep pallets and makes the backroom guys stack them 12 high, by hand, shit is fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>741765619
I HATE fuckers who are too lazy to turn a goddamn forklift to properly organize a load line. Ignorant fuckers.
>>
>>741761573
Two way entry reversible.

Cheap to make, very sturdy, easily manipulated by forklift, easy and safe to walk on.

All other pallets are inferior.
>>
>>741762318
Australia has the same law.
Siemens once had to pay a hefty fine because their delivery was late.
They had to repackage the whole shipment and missed the freighter.
>>
>>741765727

Yeah no, I use the walkie stacker. I'm not killing myself.
>>
>>741764677
*chad pallet
>>
>pallets
>easy to snap

yeah, maybe bc you're a fucking dipshit not knowing how to use a forklift correctly.
>>
>>741765607
Yeah, that is true. Thankfully for me, at least, only a few vendors send their product into the warehouse I work on cheps, so at least I don't have to fuck with them all that often, and there's usually a pallet return close enough that's not stacked too high for me to safely toss up top

>>741765727
What the actual fuck. Another reason I could never see myself working for Walmart again. They couldn't (and wouldn't, since they're cheap bastards) pay me enough to do that.

I've never worked in a feeder truck where a forklift could make a full turn: I don't know what 'pinwheeling' you're describing.

Could you illustrate?

>>741765765
not super friendly to pallet jacks in my experience. i like the four way entry, open boarded, three base, even if they don't last super long
>>
Did any of you guys know some people call them "skids"?

Like what the fuck, they're not supposed to skid at all.

Those are nice, only reason I don't like 3-base is they tend to snag things

When I was working at Amazon we had to use the PJ on all kinds of pallets, I never had an issue with any of them
>>
>>741766299
lol everyone where i worked called them skids
>>
What if skeletons were real
>>
>>741761849
Oh Jesus I hate those pallets. I run freight in a warehouse with a pallet jack and there's no way to get my forks in them. It also seems like the truck drivers almost always use them.

>>741761966
Yeppp
>>

Gotcha: that does look more efficient

Thanks holmes
>>
>>741765654
We occasionally get sideways pallets like those on our trucks.....and all we have are pallet jacks.

We use Four Way Entry, Perimeter Base at my Publix
it's decent. fucking milk crates catch on all the nails but that would happen with any pallet

Lmao, the limit is 15, which means they stack them to 17.
>>

Your milk comes in on wooden pallets? Daaaamn...
>>
>>741766891
CRATES of milk come on pallets

You don't think people ship loose jugs, do you?
>>
>>741766981
Nah, I got that part. I just mean it must suck to break down milk off a wooden pallet.
>>
>>741761573
in all honesty though... if its not a Chep 4 way, its just scrap wood...
>>
>>741767145
Not sure if it has a real name, but a metal triangular tool hook you use. Hook the end part under the lip of a side of the crate, kinda zigzag it to get those plastic milk crate teeth off the nail heads
>>
Nice thread, OP. Neighbor of mine down the road makes pallets. Finds farmers grubbing out ditches and tree lines, then offers them a few bucks to come in and haul off the big logs from various trees. Saws all that shit up and makes pallets out of them. God only knows what kind of wood it is, pretty much everything I bet.

Fuck you all, EUR pals are still the master race.
>>
Work on racing yachts, 4-way pallets are so much superior for manoeuvering on pontoons (skinny, with other pontoons coming off at right angles). Plus they're more than capable of taking the weight of say a half-ton mainsail... if they ever do break, we just pick up another one because guess what, pallets aren't expensive and paying employees wages for fucking around needlessly all day IS expensive.

Depends on the application and who you ask - the person using it, buying it, supplying, it, etc.
>>
>>741767851
but they still sucks for any other company you dont work for.
>>
>>741761573
Absolutely depends on what it is being used for retard. That's why there are so many in the first place
>>
>>741767961
Nope, they are useful wherever they are useful, and vice versa.
>>
>>741762439
this is literally the most intelligent thread I've ever seen on /b/ what the fuck are you talking about
>>
>>741761573
Obviously we know close board 4 way is the best. It's heavy yes but it clearly holds the most weight and doesn't break. Also fuck Euro trash awkwardly shaped flimsy shit.
>>
>>741763124
Yeah I have a Masters degree in Philosophy with Distinction. Not sure if that supports or undermines your point...

Well the ash bore can level a forest In no time at all and Brazil has two things attractive women and Rainforests. They'd be fucked.
>>
I just grab whatever pallets either my work or the local Dollar Tree has available. (Yes, I ask first.)
I'm currently in the process of finishing my raised garden beds. Too late for this growing season, but they'll be ready for next year.

Pain in the ass to use with a pallet jack tho' and for the ones you ride along with it is basically unusable, in that regard the europallet is superior.

Oh shit, anyone who has some accident story regarding these? Considering how many accidents with regular forklifts stuff this has to be a real idiottrap.
>>
>>741772608
Not seen it personally, but the old Loss Prevention/Safety guy that used to be in charge of our warehouse was telling us about a kid who didn't bother wearing his safety harness on one of the cherry pickers in another warehouse he worked, and fell. It ended about as well as you'd think it would.
>>
>>741772608
Not really but I've seen people fall off them multiple times. They have harness systems so they just smack against the mast and dangle there. They're stupid easy to drive so even full fledged retards tend to not wreck.
>>
>>741761573
Plastic pallets are superior.
>>
>>741772608
Easy enough to drive, but ironically the big risk is overhead collisions. When youre up, its easy to make errors of spatial awareness. Hitting a water main up in the rafters is frankly more terrifying than falling off.
