I don't know any Canadians that use the milk bags, but surely they are bought because they are always on the shelf at the store.
Mom used to buy them when I was a kid and I always thought it was strange.
To keep them, they'd be placed in pic related and then cut open.

1. Did the Canadian government allow one of its citizens to be detained and tortured for 10 years without proper trial in an illegal holding facility operated by an ally? Yes.

2. Does the nature of the crime committed change the standards in which an accused is held or treated according to the law? No.

Omar Khadr was not paid for being a terrorist. Omar Khadr was paid because the government abandoned him in a hole for years.

Accountability swings both ways. If they dicked me around, you bet your ass I'd sue the fuckers for everything I could.

You didnt read my post very well.

He could have been pulled from gitmo and held in Canada to stand proper trial at any time. The government allowed him to be illegally detained without trial for ten years.

So the US was just going to let go of one of their prisoners taken in an offshore firefight against their own men, think about the political ramifications that would happen if they allowed that. You have to understand there is more than just one side involved in this situation.
The most pathetic thing was the Canadian government paying him out without even attempting a trial on the case.
They can pretend to say it would cost more in legal fees than the payout they gave him, but the fact of the matter is they never even tried to bring the justice system into it.

>>
>>740788970

If Khadr was held in a legal institution then I could see that being the case, but he was held in an illegal detention facility without trial by an ally. The canadian government didnt do enough to get him to stand trial.

The technical ramifications are clear and in a court of law this case was, is and will be a loser for the government no matter how much one tries to spin it.

It fuckin sucks that they have to pay the sonofabitch but an independent judicial process dictates that the government do everything in it's power to have him freed.

They didnt, and now they have to pay.

This is not just based on Canadian law but international law, there is also a case going on where an East Indian couple who are being tried for murdering their own daughter and her husband because he was not considered a suitable class for them.
They did this crime in east India and fled back to Canada where they have citizenship. The Canadian government is not obeying their extradition treaty with India, and not deporting the couple to stand trial for their crimes offshore.

even the legalization of marijuana is a strict violation of international drug treaties with which Trudeau placed as one of his prime platforms to win the election. Which he has still not explained how he is going to rectify on the international level.

They're flip flopping on matters and law as they see fit.

But to circle back to the matter at hand, they had no legal right to take a prisoner of war from another country when said prisoner was detained off of Canadian soil. Their only tie was that he was born here.
And don't forget that one of the soldiers that he was accused of throwing the grenade at was also the one who chose to save his life that day beside the corpse of his own fallen comrade.

He should be thankful to even be alive today, not payed out for his crimes.

Civil rights arent optional in a "free" country. The government cant determine who they will or won't treat humanely.

Just because we slap the word terrorist in him doesnt make the judicial process any less or more relavent

The nature of the crime committed should not effect the standards in which an individual is held or tried in a truly partial judicial system

gitmo isn't run by canada you faggot.

why is it perfectly normal to try and imprison a canadian citizen for states crimes (which aren't even a crime here) yet leaving them to try and hold a treasonous murderer is somehow wrong or at all within the governments power to prevent?

From the official Supreme Court of Canada judgement:

"Canada actively participated in a process contrary to its international human rights obligations and contributed to K’s ongoing detention so as to deprive him of his right to liberty and security of the person, guaranteed by s. 7 of the Charter , not in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice. Though the process to which K is subject has changed, his claim is based upon the same underlying series of events considered in Khadr 2008. As held in that case, the Charter applies to the participation of Canadian officials in a regime later found to be in violation of fundamental rights protected by international law. There is a sufficient connection between the government’s participation in the illegal process and the deprivation of K’s liberty and security of the person. While the U.S. is the primary source of the deprivation, it is reasonable to infer from the uncontradicted evidence before the Court that the statements taken by Canadian officials are contributing to K’s continued detention. The deprivation of K’s right to liberty and security of the person is not in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice."

No idea, I'm not Canadian. I just know that as an American that if I wanted to immigrate to Canada I would have a better shot of being accepted if I were a doctor or engineer rather than a cashier. I don't know what their policy is on refugees. I would assume it would be quite a bit less strict if I were fleeing (or claimed to be fleeing) war and terrorism in my home country.

>>740784753
Milk bags are basically an Ontario and Quebec thing. Maybe in other provinces but I never saw it. They are usually sold in 3 bags (1.3 liters each) in another bag that's the size of a shopping bag. The bags are thick enough that they don't leak. You do need a cheap (<$1) plastic jug to hold them. Families buy this stuff because you get 4 liters for half the price of a gallon jug.
>>
>>740797893
I understand that but it's literally pre-printed on books, so in 10 years, regardless of the strength of the dollar, it's still more expensive?
>>
>>740784563
Trudeau is going to legalize marijuana. Everything else he does might get reversed or never happen, but he's going to legalize weed and therefore his legacy will live forever.

Also, take it from a guy who spent 4 years in jail because of bullshit minimum sentences - Harper was a fuckwad and we needed someone to rollback the crap he legislated.

That is simply a long drawn out way of saying the Americans treated him like a terrorist and we couldn't do anything to stop them without ever admitting to doing any of the actual actions against him.
Not once in that statement do they claim to actually be the ones doing the torturing.
This is laughable to say the least.

Canada allows to a of refugees a second chance at a different life, but nowhere in their laws or constitutions do they promote the right to elimination of another human being's life.

That comes from the environment of most of the places these refugees come from. So when the father chooses to embrace the lifestyle of his homeland and bring his son there to teach him that they have the right to eliminate the lives of others, this is in direct conflict of what Canada supports.
This should be seen as an individual choosing to throw away that second chance they were given, but they would happily milk that system which gave them this chance because it is advantageous of them to do so. Even though they enacted the right to eliminate other human beings based on a belief not of Canadian origin but of the country in which they chose to leave behind.
>>
>>740798209
No you're a towel!
>>
>>740798865
Individual states have a loop hole, but an entire country cannot without violating international law. Therefore when Trudeau "promised" legalization, he was either lying through his teeth, or severely ill informed. Both are unfavorable traits in a prime minister.

Because they are constantly bombarded with newscasts stating they are doing actions to work toward it, but nothing is actually be written up and being brought up legislatively.

For the most part, it seems to just be Canadians (in North America) who actually still love the US. The American Left hate the Trump government and "alt-right", the American Right hate the media and "liberal elites". In Canada we are just watching the cornerstone of global democracy tear itself apart and turn inward.
