First of all, the buildings that are hit directly are usually reduced to rubble.
Additionally, they are made from stone and steel and only a few floors tall, wtc was made from glass and steel and were the tallest in the world. Any tower the size of wtc would collapse from its own weight if hit by a bomb like in Syria. A small stone structure though may have some remaining walls still standing, because they are harder and more compact that a tall glass structure.
