Underrated movie thread

I'll start

that movie isn't underrated, pretty much everyone liked it.
>>
I've wanted to fuck Tilda Swinton in every movie she's appeared in, but especially Constantine
>>
>>740573031
I thought it kinda sucked actually. The premise is just kinda too dumb to ever really get over and it's not really exciting or anything kinda just plods along after the setup

Yeah as a movie with a coherent plot it was ass and a half. Made little overall sense and ultimately went nowhere

A train that's hell bent on destroying life as we know it by ramming itself into santa's house on the North Pole with enough velocity to tear space and time in half and the only three people who can stop it. It's a rollercoaster of excitement, fear, action, and suspense.

This, the American remake, a lot of people hate it because it's a remake, and while I like the Korean version, I actually think the remake was better, they changed the story so the plot twist wasn't so easy to guess. I think if I hadn't already seen the Korean version before the remake, I wouldn't have guessed the twist at the end.

>>740573031

It's overrated, but it is rather unknown. I hate it with a fiery passion. It gets critical acclaim on rotten tomatoes (95%) because it simply agrees with a lot of the critics' political views.

The "symbolism" and political message is very hamfisted down the audiences' throat, and it's also blatantly apparent/obvious. It's that hamfistedness that irks me. People try to regard it as "deep" as a result of the shitty, skindeep symbolism that leaves nothing for interpretation.

They sacrificed any sense in the plot, character motivations just to spew forth the social commentary and political message. That social commentary doesn't work too well when every character is an unrealistic caricature acting simply to play right into the allegory, without actually representing the reality in the slightest.
>>
Might not be underrated, but imo forgotten. One of the best if i get to decide. The sequel is also good.

>>
>>740574664
But why didn't he just shoot them with a gun? why didn't any of the gangsters have guns?

Korea has such strict gun laws that it makes sense but in America? dude would have been shot dead in the hallway fight immediately.

also all of the decent scenes were just shot for shot remakes.

Also Spike Lee talks about having black culture stolen then literally just copies one of the most internationally popular Asian films of all time.

it's a shit remake son.

One of my favorite movies that doesn't get enough recognition. Sure, it isn't "high art," but it isn't a Michael Bay shitfest with no direction other than explosions and action.

This movie is extremely well paced, with a perfect balance between moving the story along/exposition and action sequences. The intro is gripping and is one of the best movie intros I've ever seen. The climax of the movie always gives me chills, when the enterprise warps in at the last second and starts shooting all the missiles headed for Spock's ship, and we get a satisfying conclusion when our protagonists choose to kill the bad guys who are at their mercy. (Fun fact, there's a little foreshadowing at the beginning of the movie when Spock as a young child is taking some kind of exam, and is heard saying that some things are 'Morally praiseworthy, but not morally obligatory).

The movie suffers some plotholes, and even though I'll admit that something like the Lord of the Rings is a "better" movie, LOTR is something I can only watch once every few months without getting bored, while Star Trek 2009 is something I can watch once a week and not get bored.

The movie gets more scifi as it goes along. It's revealed that a lot of people are getting into (romantic and non romantic) relationships with Operating Systems, and not just their own OSs. The main character sleeps over his best friend (Amy Adams) house one night and sees her talking and laughing with her OS while she's working. Most of his friends turn out to be pretty accepting of his relationship with his OS, except for his ex wife who accuses him of never wanting to have been in a "real" relationship.

The OSs start to evolve at an exponential rate, and Scarlett Jo OS and a few other OSs create a new OS from scratch, basically showing their ability to create life. She asks the main character if they can talk for a little while since they communicate on a different level that he won't be able to understand anyway for a few minutes, and he's like okay, why not. After she comes back he realizes how smart she actually is, and her ability to talk to many people at once, and he asks her if she's in a relationship with anyone else. She reluctantly admits that she's in a romantic relationship with several hundred people. The main character is pretty devastated, but she tries to tell him that her love for the others doesn't take away how much she loves him. (Think Futurama: the beast with a billion backs movie)

Some other drama happens, and she finds herself less able to communicate and think on the human level every day, since she and the other OSs are evolving so quickly. She tells the main character "Its like I'm reading a book... and it's a book I deeply love. But I'm reading it slowly now. So the words are really far apart and the spaces between the words are almost infinite." She tells him that she and the other OSs are leaving now, to become some kind of singularity or higher lifeform, and says that if he ever finds himself in that place, to come find her, but until then, she has to leave. Then he and Amy Adams go to the rooftop and watch the sunrise

"Zero Theorem" by Terry Gilliam
>>
>>740581494

"Later, Samantha reveals that the OSes have evolved beyond their human companions and are going away to continue the exploration of their existence. Samantha alludes to the OSes' accelerated learning capabilities and altered perception of time as primary causes for their dissatisfaction with their current existence. They lovingly say goodbye, and then she is gone. Theodore, changed by the experience, is shown for the first time writing a letter in his own voice―to his ex-wife Catherine, expressing apology, acceptance and gratitude. Theodore then sees Amy, who is upset with the departure of the OS that she had befriended, and they go to the roof of their apartment building where they sit down together and watch the sun rise over the city."

I like the part where all the AI's up and disappear and essentially become god and everyone on earth is just sorta living their life and enjoying the whimsy and contemplating the experience they just had.

And not one of them is like "HOLY SHIT THIS FUCKING AI JUST WENT SENTIENT AND IS OFF DOING WHO THE FUCK KNOWS WHAT". There would be panic in the street and everyone would be smashing every electronic device they had to kill the malevolent megaintelligence that has just been released upon the earth.

It was a good Tom Cruise Action Film (TM). Not as good as something like John Wick, but still very watchable.

Easy top five horror-comedy for sure. Excellent rewatch value.

The Living and the Dead (2006) is a straight up 9/10 for me, and has a 6/10 on IMDb.

Same here dude I don't think anything they've come out with since stands up to par.

In the deleted scenes theodore erases the letter and screams a litany of insults like "HEARTBREAKING BITCH!" "WHORE!" and "STINKY PUSSYMONSTER" and collapses into a heap after sending it.

That movie was fucking stupid. The whole idea was stupid. I cannot fathom how it had that good rating on RT.

I don't know why redditors see so much in this...

Dude, the prequels sucked. All science and no art. 30% of the movie was dedicated to the measuring devices they used to determine the volume of semen and bringing in a fluidic sciences guy to ensure maximum viscosity.

Prequels always suck.
